Currently having issues with my 2nd Seiki 212S. I have a 3rd ready to be used in a box as well. 1st one fried itself a while back. This one is giving me either a no disc or unknown disc error. Has been spotty for a few days, but has still played movies for region A or B. I suppose I should have left it for solely B and use it only for those discs. I did get the warranty plan, so hopefully the local store still has stock so I can exchange yet again. Oh the joys of cheap electronics.

I only use this player for my Region B discs. People are playing with fire making it their everyday player.

I'm the same way. Trying to make this little guy last as long as possible.

Got the disc working. Took several tries with it quitting while video was playing or just saying no disc etc. Tried again and again & it has seemed to have corrected itself for this disc (Arrow's release of Blow Out). No more switching to A or DVD use for this player going forward.

EDIT: Today had difficulty with another region B disc. However, after repeating the same process I did last night, it played without issue. Seems the player needs to warm up or something perhaps...

Out of production, you might be able to find a used one on EBAY.

XS Cargo may have them still, but watch out - they claim they are "refurbished" and they are anything but. Make sure you test it out and ensure it comes with the remote - I had to make three trips there to finally get a working unit with a remote.

did you keep #1? might be worth considering going forward, for the parts. sounds like #2 has a bad laser that could have been repaired with #1's laser swapped in. otherwise, if it was the power board the fried, you could move that board from the bad laser unit. keep those cheap parts, and maybe buy one more if your store has stock!! how much are they asking?? cant find them anywhere near me!

No longer have #1... 2 & 3 I now have with me in Calgary. Before I left Winnipeg, the XS Cargo where I picked them up at has closed down.

Well people in the U.S. can finally rest easy, because Sears and Kmart are now selling the Seiki SR212S for the low price of $60 and, just like the BD660, can be made region free! Here are a couple things that you may want to know about the player: First and foremost, this is a BASIC Blu-ray player. There are jacks in the back for composite video and there is the obvious HDMI port as well. There are no Digital output jacks to speak of and there is no Ethernet port as well, so no BD-Live. There is a USB port on the front of the player which supports photo, music and video playback. I tested several discs on this player, and I was quite impressed with the results. I popped in Skyfall, and it loaded pretty quickly. Disc playback was perfect. Even the menus transitioned smoothly. After that, I decided to change the region and popped in the Region B locked Howard The Duck. Again, no problems whatsoever. Lastly, I popped in my Region 2 locked DVD of No Retreat, No Surrender. Naturally, the PAL video converted to NTSC and the disc played with no problems at all. The upconverting looked really good. I have an Insignia NS-BRDVD4 which can be made region free, and the Seiki not only stands up to it for disc playback, it surpasses it. The player is quieter, disc loading is faster, and menu transitions are smoother. Don't buy this player expecting to go online and watch Netflix or YouTube. This is a simple Blu-ray player for people like me who don't want to spend a lot of money to go region free. If anyone has any questions, please, don't hesitate to ask.

[Show spoiler]With the player on, press "set up" on the remote.

Then punch in 8520 on the remote and a menu will pop up.

They'll be a box at the bottom right for the region coding of dvds and another for blu-rays.

With the remote, punch in 0 for dvd. This will make it region free.

For blu-rays, punch in 1 for region A, 2 for region B and 4 for region C (Haven't tried these yet).

Once you're done, press set up. That simple. As already mentioned, you'll have to change the region coding for blu-rays everytime you change over.
Does this new Seiki play "X-Men: Days of Future Past" blu-ray? It wouldn't play on the BD660.

Sears is now selling the Seiki SR4KP1 which can upconvert to 4K (although I don't have a 4K tv to test it on). The player runs around $100 and can be set to region free BD and DVD just like the SR212S and the BD660. It does have an eithernet port but no online apps for it. It will play "X-Men Days of Future Past" without any problems.

I just bought an SR4KP1 from a local Sears, as a replacement for my Orei A3, which seemed to have stopped working altogether after being spotty for a few months. They price-matched the website's price of $89.99. I'm happy to have a region free option that does not suffer from the aliasing I saw with the Orei.

Thank you for the info. I'll be picking this up as a back up to 212S.
Now I just need to get the 4k tv.

I saw this player at Sears this weekend pretty cheap, almost bought it right then... guess I should've. Thanks for the post and letting us know! Sears here I come.

Default Seiki SR4KP1

IMG_0112.jpg

Just picked this up from Sears for $90 +tax. Currently $10 off, on sale.
I posted a pic so you can see the size difference between this and the 212. The 4KP1 weighs less than half of what the 212 weighs. It's all plastic as opposed to the 212 with the metal case. It seems sturdy enough so it doesn't bother me.
The 4KP1 seems to respond to remote commands a lot quicker than the 212. I didn't have to point it any special way or angle to get it to respond so that's a nice upgrade! The region screen operates the same as the 212 so no surprise there. I played a couple of Blu-rays and they both loaded up quick enough. It was quiet once the movie started playing. I like this player so far and it's still cheap enough for a multi-region. I've only spent a half hour messing around with it but so far so good. I'm keeping it!

Thank you for posting this! I was interested to see what the new chassis would look like, via an in-hand pic. Definitely good news about the remote being improved!
I see the online listing is only $89.99...a great deal!

Here's a product link, from Sears.com for anyone interested:

Edit: Just ordered, $95/change shipped, should arrive next week.

How is the picture quality at 1080p? Look the same as the SR212?

I'm watching Dawn/Apes and it looks very detailed to me. I'm going to say the picture looks basically the same. I seem to remember the SR212 putting out a nice pic.
