Default Your worst case of buyer's remorse?

I'm coming off of a recent Criterion blu-ray binge during the Barnes&Noble 50% off sale and I'm already starting to feel that horrible feeling of disgust at having exhibited such weakness and lack of will power.

I couldn't stop myself. I'm simply powerless in the face of the almighty Criterion label. In addition to Eraserhead, La Dolce Vita and Persona, all of which I'm happy with, I ended up buying L'Avventura, as well as blind buys of La Notte and L'Eclisse. Although I think they're all interesting films, I don't see myself ever watching them more than one or twice in the near future. And I'm not really into collecting for the sake of collecting.

Right now I feel like a man on a strict diet who just gorged on an extra large pizza and a gallon of ice cream.

I sicken myself.

...anyone else ever experience this feeling of post-Black Friday self loathing with blu-ray buys?

Yeah...I feel like that a lot...There are a lot of other places my money should be going. This black friday/cyber Monday I actually did not too bad which I'm happy that I showed some restraint...but now I'm going to try and hold off on buying until boxing day...unless amazon.de has a sale on franco/goya collection stuff or importcds has some price drops on certain titles...lol there's always an "OR" isn't there...

I never buy anything just based on the label that's producing it...remember, Criterion has TWO Michael Bay movies to their credit. I also never re-buy movies just based on packaging alone. That strays too close to "Malibu Stacey has a new hat!" territory for me. I try to only buy movies I liked, and if it's a borderline liked, I try to buy as cheaply as possible (hopefully with a digital copy I can shill and make my purchase even cheaper).

Oh my goodness Ray, this Antonioni BD saga of yours appears to have taken a turn for the worse. I'm sorry to hear this.

At least there's the fitting parallels of this scenario spanning three threads and resulting in a state of malaise.

(sorry, could not resist)

At least you should be able to make your money back by selling these now that the B&N sale is over.

Only felt bad about buying the Italian Job (Mark Whalberg Charlize Theron) it badly needs a remaster and it said it had DTS (1.5 mbps) it only had Dolby Digital.

Or, you could just return them and/or rent/buy used later if it's one you'd still really want to see. I've done that with "buyer's remorse" purchases before.

Takes some cojones to return an opened disc just because one didn't care for the content... just MHO.

You return it sealed and recoup your losses. I edited my post for clarification

Ah, OK understood. I think the OP opened and watched L'eclisse after being assured by some of us that it was worth keeping.

I finished watching L'Eclisse last night and thought to myself, "Wow...that was pretty interesting."

...then I realized that I would most likely never watch it again.

My world is crumbling down around me.

Nothing says "I'm sorry" like a brand new copy of Red Desert.

I dunno....I think you should have more regret over using a serial killer for your avatar than buying a few too many Criterions. Maybe you should pick up Vengeance is Mine next sale.

I Married A Witch or Cul-de-sac would do nicely as well. I listed both for sale the next day after watching.

Happens to all of us, I guess. Even with the beloved Criterion Collection!

I'm still kicking myself for not getting Star Trek: TNG Season Four when it was twenty-six bucks and change last week.

Does that count?

Strictly my opinion but I would advise against selling the Antonioni films straight away. Sit on them a while. Maybe your perspective will change down the line. Or, maybe they go out of print and skyrocket in value.

One of my greatest regrets in regards to collecting film on DVD is all the films I have sold. I wish I still owned a lot of them (but not all of them). Now, a lot of the films I owned on DVD are OOP and still have not been released on Blu-ray.

People buying Criterion films just for the label - who might very well not know much about the majority of films they are buying - get no sympathy from me!

I've never had buyer's remorse over a movie purchase.

I did make a reckless blind buy yesterday when I picked up The November Man from Target on a whim while I was picking up Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which I had gone to the store specifically to purchase. I'm a big fan of Pierce Brosnan's Bond movies and I love Olga Kurylenko, so I'll probably get something out of the film, but this is the type of Blu-ray that I usually rent from Redbox first. If it's an awful movie, though, then I'll sell it and move on with my life.
