What really scares me is Warner. I have very little confidence we're getting the two Harryhausen titles they control on BD. It really sucks that two of my three favorite HH films are in Warner's hands
I actually think Warner Bros. controls Three Harryhausen films: "Mighty Joe Young," "Beast From Twenty Thousand Fathoms" and "Valley of Gwangi." Now, one may argue that "Joe" is not really a Harryhausen film, but he did the lion's share of the animation under his mentor, Willis O'Brien, and is credited as First Technician. Far as I'm concerned, its a Harryhausen Film!

Yeah, it certainly is a Harryhausen movie but I'm sure MJY will make it to blu at some point. I'm not as confident about Gwangi and Beast. I really thought when Ray passed that Warner would have released these movies on blu out of respect. Maybe Warner Archives will release them soon. I would love to see Them! and The Thing From Another World as well.

Anyway, we spoke about the film and I asked if they had ever found any Technicolor footage in vaults (the film was originally planed and began shooting in Technicolor, but Frank Warner put a stop to it thinking it was a waste of money for a giant bug film to be shot in color - which was more expensive then).
My contact said they had found footage and that it would be saved for bonus material at another time.
I had mentioned how I had remembered reading that a lot of work had gone into the production of the mechanical ants - especially the eyes which were domed plastic with soap bubble maker inside that gave the domed eye a weird organic look as the bubble swirled, popped and were highlighted by a revolving color wheel of light.
He confirmed that the footage showed that.

Now, where the hell is this stuff and why hasn't WB moved on a BD!
Too cool!

I believe that The Thing from Another World, Them, and Valley of Gwangi are no longer in print on pressed DVDs, but are all now relegated to MOD DVD-Rs from Warner Archive. Which isn't a good sign. But we can always hope that WAC will decide to upgrade them.

I'm not sure about Mighty Joe Young. I realize that I'm not even sure if it was ever released on DVD by itself. I have it as part of The King Kong Collection. Same with Son of Kong, for that matter.

Encountered some major site slowdown at Screen Archives trying to snag an autographed Audrey Rose. Looks like my order went through, but each step had a 30-second or more lag, which hasn't happened to me before (and I generally place an order during promos and pre-orders).

Not a complaint--like I said, the order seemed to go through--just an observation. Surprised this didn't happen during, for instance, The Blob or another popular pre-order/promo day.

I had the same issue, a good 2 minute lag in total...but eventually went through. I much prefer these Promo's on off Pre-Order Days!

Same thing happened to me. I was certain it was going to disappear before my computer caught up, but it looks like it went through okay.

Both the movie and PQ have a fairly low rating for a TT title... it's a blind buy for me, but there were 4 other titles I was going to buy anyway this week, so it made sense to order today and try to get the free promo. Any perspective from folks that have already bought/watched this... was the PQ really disappointing/distracting?

Well, it has to be better than the DVD I'm upgrading...and getting it for free (and autographed) is icing on the cake! I didn't follow when Che was released as a promo. How long did it stick around?

Che was around for about 24 hours. But like Audrey Rose, it's probably one of their least sought after movies. Che only had about 3 hours advance warning, while this one was announced 2 days ago.

I'm going to pass this time. Even if I wanted it, I've already spent more than I should have during the BF sales (which may explain why it's moving even slower than anticipated, as a lot of people have BF spending hangovers. Also so many BF deals suddenly make TT movies seem very expensive, lol).

Still showing 43 left, down only 4 from about an hour ago, so plenty of time for anybody who wants it.

I also think it could be just the oversaturation of these promos. One a month is pushing it already, but then last month had two promos. It's becoming harder and harder to come up with 4 TT titles every month to get the promo, even if you buy every single new TT release. It was easier a while back, but that's when I was catching up on earlier TT titles that interested me. Now, there's not really any that I want left so I skipped Audrey Rose, although it is one I would have liked an autographed copy of, but I had already bought a copy of it to get an earlier promo. ha.

That said, I think the more popular titles or the ones with a bigger name autograph like La Bamba will still move super fast, but some of these lesser promos will probably continue to move a lot slower.

I was in the same boat, already bought Audrey Rose to get enough titles in my cart for a previous promo. Also 2 of the movies in my cart I wasn't too exited about (The Believers and Heaven and Earth). But since I grabbed the last 4 promos in a row, it's a good time to take a pass and let someone else have it this time around.
