Small example: millions pay for comcast and illegally download the hot new cd distributed by sony records = comcast wins and sony loses.

Or crouching tiger sequel being released on Netflix = loss of business for amc theaters.

It goes on and on like so.
So, when Comcast reports their earnings, they are lying?

OK. Got it. Thanks for the heads-up. Though someone should probably call the SEC.

That's probably true but only because it's impossible to measure the impact of internet film bashing.

People can throw out numbers like $100M but how can one really measure something like that?

Basically all we have are 'in my day we didn't have all this hashbrownjjsucks nonsense and movies did a lot better' anecdotes.

Me? I don't think vocal internet minorities have nearly as much influence as they or you seem to think they do.

But I can't really argue that.

I've been arguing that since before the WWW even existed, and we are all b***hing about stuff on Usenet.

Take a place like this board. Yeah, you might get a lot of complaining or arguing. But if you look at who is posting in each of the controversial threads, sometimes you find that like 50% of the posts are by a dozen or less people. In this very thread, there are ~10k posts, and something like 1,500 of them are by the Top 5 posters in the thread.

This is true on nearly any internet venue. I remember when I was on a comics board, specifically a WW board. We had a very similar discussion, and found that even though there were a HUGE number of posts on that WW board, the VAST majority of them were from like 5 of us. If I remember, I had something like 12,000 posts on that board.

Same thing with the alt.tv.buff-v-slayer group on Usenet. The exact same arguments by the exact same people.

So, yeah.

JJ is so paranoid about leaks because his famous superman movie got completely shut down solely because of the internet ripping on his leaked early draft script.

So there is definitely an impact to trolling as far as studio execs are concerned. I guarantee you they have already become extremely aware of the teaser trailer bickering.

Idk, I think the memetic effect of the internet and social media culture is undeniably influential. Then you have the backlash memetic effect that inevitably turns up when a meme is repeated often and long enough. However, I'm doubtful it will really hurt the box office of an event like Star Wars that much...people will go to see even if its just to hate.

One thing has stayed true all of these years: #JarJarSucks

Just wondering where you guys stood on if Anakin should appear as a Force ghost or not?

Darth Vader is my favorite character, so I think it would be cool if Anakin appeared as a Force ghost. (As Sebastian Shaw, not Hayden Christensen. They could find an actor who resembles Shaw).

I just think it would be nice if Luke could have an actual relationship with him as a father instead of this "evil" guy who was after him for three movies.

I never assumed that Anakin appeared to Luke at the end of Jedi and that was it. Obi-Wan kept appearing to Luke -- why not Anakin? The whole point of being a Force ghost is that you're not truly "gone."

I just think it would be nice - whether in this film or sequels - if we can see Luke and Anakin on good terms. It's been 30 years, they 'made up' at the end of Jedi with Luke helping Anakin redeem himself. I want Anakin to have a presence in these films.

I would be 100% okay with this as long as it was not Hayden.

So uninteresting discussion. But still amaze me that whatever the topic is, Lucas bashing will always be there. Why can't just be a nice person once in a while?

I really doubt he would have liked the Abrams Star Trek 90210 version.

I am going to give Abrams the benefit of doubt before coming to a judgment on this Star Wars film since I haven't seen it yet. Lucas set the bar so low with the prequels and the special editions that to go even lower would require a shovel.
Well if Roddenberry got pissed at that scene then yeah he probably wouldn't like the Abram's movies lol.

I honestly had no idea he was angry at that scene until now.

[Show spoiler]That death is tame in comparison to what happened to most of the red shirts in the original series.

Also didn't he like The Motion Picture?

I swear he at least liked that movie.

That would actually be pretty cool.

He could be a guide for Luke along with Obi-Wan and Yoda.

If it were to ever happen I could picture Ian Mckellen playing the part.

Unless of course he will be making an appearance and we all don't know about it.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I have no problem with Anakin appearing as a force ghost, but I had a problem with Christensen replacing Shaw in RotJ. I assume that was done to reinforce the idea behind Obi-Wan's statement that Luke's father died when he turned to the dark side and became Vader.

Personally, I think Vader rejoined the light side just before he died and should have been represented that way. Thus someone who looked like Shaw would be preferable, unless there's a better explanation for Christensen being used.

Yeah I completely agree.

He may have turned to the dark side and became Vader when he was younger but I still believe that as soon he killed the Emperor and saved Luke's life he returned to the light side and became Anakin again.

So him looking older when he's a force ghost makes perfect sense and shouldn't have been changed imo.

See if Christensen had looked more warm and kind when he appeared like Shaw did originally then it would've been at least a bit tolerable imo but he looks menacing and pervy with that glare an' all.

Yoda is kind of ageless but for the most part force ghosts of existing characters would be tricky.

Best case, Luke and his dad would be roughly the same age, worst case Luke would be a lot older than his dad.

I could see Luke maybe being 'haunted' by voices of characters like Ben and Anakin (ala Liam Neeson's 'Anakin, no' in Clones) but full-on force ghosts?

Gut says no.

Yup, and talk radio was another (often vilified) way the great unwashed could spout off. I distinctly remember arguing in a bar (yes, a lot of my stories from the 80s have that phrase in them...sue me) about Red Dawn with my main point being 'it's not even freaking out yet, nobody who's *****ing about it has even seen it'.

The more things change...

Well then they've got their ears a lot closer to the ground than I do cause I haven't really seen a lot of bickering. Some people don't like the new sabre, but other than that...

So I'm listening to the score for Episode I. Who here beside me is looking forward to the score for The Force Awakens?!

Definitely me.

As soon as the main theme starts blasting out I'll be like:

aww-hell-yeah.jpg

Hopefully we'll have many more memorable pieces of Star Wars music from Mr. Williams.

With that being said if there's one thing that's been consistent through the previous 6 movies it's the scores imo.
