This will break 700 mil with global box offices included easily. I have a pretty good feeling that this is going to be considered one of the greats as far as Star Wars goes and will be received far better than the prequels.
Just a hunch, but I don't see a Disney backed Star Wars underperforming. |

Good point. Also factor in IMAX ticket sales and possibly 3d sales and the force unleashed could break some records...

I love how you keep throwing your personal opinion out as if it was fact. SITH made $380 million in 2005, which is more than any movie this year made. Frozen made $400 million domestic 2013 dollars. Are you going to say that's a crappy failure too? ![]() The teaser is one of the most talked about things of 2014. 88 seconds constantly viewed, analyzed, parodied, etc. You can bet the movie is going to make a lot of money. |

The anticipation of Episode I was incredible. Fans couldn't wait to go see it. This is similar, in that no one expected to have any more SW films made, and here again GL said he was done making SW films and he didn't want anyone else making them in his lifetime. The difference here is that there has been this feeling by fans that GL was losing the magic that made the OT great. Now with new creative forces, I think maybe SW stock is on the rise again, and people will rush to go see Ep7. A lot is riding on initial reviews and opinions, but if it's as good as its momentum seems to be building, I can't see this movie not pulling down $1B worldwide. I'm not crunching any numbers, but I'd bet record domestic numbers are possible, at least top 3. I'm sure it'll break opening weekend records, and if word of mouth and reviews hold up, put me down for $1.5B before it leaves theaters.

The only thing I see hindering ticket sales is that 2015 is loaded with some big releases, and folks only have so much money to spend on theatre tickets. Also I don't know if the December release date will help or hurt ticket sales, as opposed to a summer release when people are more likely to be out & about anyway. All it takes is a poorly timed winter storm, and that would certainly eat up a lot of tickets, for a good portion of the country. Then I have to question box office results in today's technological society. With so many home video viewing options at our disposal these days, just using box office numbers seems a little misleading. I'm an avid film enthusiast, but due to busy daily schedules(and neverending stream of babies being introduced the rickah88 household) I have not been to a theatre in 4 years. I know I can't be the only one. In any event, I'm planning on making my return to the theatre for this film, no doubt about that. ![]() |

I can't believe people are being so critical over the character names. Come on, were any of the original Star Wars character names that cool when we first heard them? We may not have given it much thought then, but... no, they only really became cool names once we saw the movies and liked the characters. I mean, think about it --- Han Solo? Boba Fett? Obi-Wan? Yoda? The only names that really strike me as cool names are Darth Vader (Dark Invader), Luke Skywalker (in a comic booky type way), and my person favorite name in the whole SW mythology, Lando Calrissian (which sounds aristocratic). And is BB-8 any worse of a robot name than R2-D2 or C-3PO? I swear, some Star Wars fans are just the pettiest nitpickers ever.

I don't think it will break too many records but it will easily make $1B. I agree with Sam Jackson when he said that Lucas got cheated. Lucasfilm is worth way more than Disney paid for it and they'll make their money back really quickly.

Nobody got "cheated". Lucas knew what he was doing.

Lucky for us, Mark Hamill has a lot of other things going on besides returning to Star Wars. It means there’s plenty of opportunities to ask him about Star Wars! The actor recently completed shooting on J.J. Abrams‘ Star Wars: The Force Awakens and gushed about how it made him feel to see such a huge reaction to the first trailer. Now, in yet another interview, Luke Skywalker himself talked about how he did not like growing a beard for the new film but how much he loved playing with the new droid BB-8. And yes, that droid is a practical effect. He also talked about being hesitant to come back and surprised at Harrison Ford‘s enthusiasm. There are really some great quotes here, so check them out below. Hamill said all this in an interview with Yahoo Movies. Primarily, he’s promoting his part in the new stop-motion Elf special but, it’s Luke Skywalker for crying out loud. Here are a few excerpts: On the beard he grew for The Force Awakens: Quote:
