They should go away within a few minutes of full screen content. Likely a 2.35:1 movie, right?

No, it was 1.78. It looked like the subtitles were leaving a cumulative after-image as the movie itself was playing. It was animated and I don't know if that makes any difference with how susceptible it would be to image retention. I ran the scrolling pattern for a while and it seems to have mostly faded away. I'm a little worried now, though, as a lot of what I watch is subtitled.

How many hours do you have on your plasma?

It'll be two weeks old on Saturday. I can't give an exact count for hours of use but I'd say its at least 80 hours if not more.

I have the 60F5300 and I've yet to have any IR that didn't go away after a few seconds of content. Mostly from set up menu's and such on BD players and HUD's from games. I haven't watched any subtitled content..

Same here. I'm glad with what I got out of this TV. Here's my settings:

Picture Mode: Movie
Cell Light: 20
Contrast: 95
Brightness: 47
Sharpness: 10
Color: 50
Ting: G50/R50
Picture Size: Screen Fit

Dynamic Contrast: Off
Black Tone: Off
Flesh Tone: 0
RGB Only Mode Off
Color Space: Auto
Gamma: -1

[White Balance (2-Point)]
R-Offset: +27
G-Offset: +26
B-Offset: +24
R-Gain: +25
G-Gain: +25
B-Gain: +25

Color Tone: Warm2
Digital Clean View: Off
MPEG Noise Filter: Off
HDMI Black Level: Normal [I'm unable to change this option for some reason]
Film Mode: Off
Black Optimizer: Dark Room

Thank the lords for "Screen Fit". I have a serious issue with overscanning in TVs, and Samsung did me a service with giving me this option. With that selected, no image information is lost.

As for these choices above, they're largely based on the recommended settings by a user from AVSforum. Not sure if it's truly accurate, though. The only thing that bugs me so far is that when I'm watching a movie with black bars, the bars themselves don't match the black levels that's within the moving image; they bleed a bit and come off as a notably fuzzy. How can this be improved?

Also, and I'm not sure if it's due to it being 1080p or the Picture Mode is set to Movie, but the TV's more susceptible to image retention on the input to watch blu-rays than the input to watch cable TV (1080i; Standard mode). It goes away when changing the inputs, but I find it strange and a little worrying.

Sorry if this sounds off-topic, just want to chime in. I heard that this TV is poor with input lag, though I sampled Demon's Souls with the PC Mode both off and on. I didn't notice any response delay being me pressing a button and the character avatar reacting to my action. Do I have to play a modern FPS to really notice the problem?

The F5300 is "slow by plasma standards".

That is the reason plasma are never brought into "Which LCD is the fastest" comparos.

The fastest LCD might be faster than the slowest plasma.

Same reason DLP projectors aren't brought in for LCD projector gaming comparo.

Again...the fastest LCD might be faster than the slowest DLP.

Ergo, if you game...

You shouldn't be buying LCD.

Sadly, the best...non CRT, gaming there was...were Mits LaserVue. Their lag was single digit mili-second.

Sorry that si just wrong. LCD monitors kills plasma and dlp for gaming.

Turn you contrast down. You want to keep that setting down for the first few hundred hours (first hundred would have been fine, but as you have had it so high it may be worth keeping it down for a few weeks). Also watch all full screen content with no still images (logos) for another hundred hours or so. Maybe watch a season or two of a tv show you have on blu-ray.

This is wholly unnecessary. The set is not more IR prone during the first hundred hours, at least not anymore than it's going to be at 800 hours or 2,000 hours. His settings are fine and quite close to my own that I got off of Orion at AVS.

Just enjoy your TV. Try not to leave static images on screen for too long. That's about it.

I and the people who made the panels disagree with you.

I turned the contrast down to 50. Is that low enough or should I go lower?

You shouldn't need to go lower, bump it up once you've got to 200 hours or so. Usually after 100 I would bump it up, but as you've been running it high I personally would keep it down for a bit longer. It is a bit annoying in the short run but is one of the negatives of plasma (they at first need to be babied). Don't have the contrast so it is unwatchable, but it will certainly be dimmer then you will want in the short term (until you bump it back up of course). Also try and mostly watch 1.78:1 content without still images. As I said above, a good tv show on blu/dvd is a good way of doing this.

The key is to remember plasmas at first need to be babied. For some this period makes them not worth it. For me the benifits of a plasma in the long run for outweigh this initial downside. Ohh, also I would recommend not gaming (or at least no game with a static hud) until you have hit that 200 hour mark as well.

Also did I say "I and" not "and I". Sits in in the grammar corner of shame.

I don't own a plasma, but I did just order a Samsung f8500. Looking at your settings, I'm going to ask if your cell light is maxed out? Isn't 20 the max? If so, that probably isn't helping IR.

I've been reducing the cell light to 15 since that movie. Not sure if that's an acceptable number.

I keep the cell light at 20, contrast at 92 in Movie mode. No IR.
