Commando (Director's Cut) -- April 24th, 2015 - Blu-ray Forum

20th Century Fox will release the Director's Cut of Commando (1985) on Blu-ray in Japan as a SteelBook edition on April 24th, 2015.

Extras are unconfirmed, but it appears that both the theatrical and director's cuts will be included, and the extras from the DVD will be ported over.

I've had the DC on DVD and have seen it at least once but don't actually remember seeing anything different about the film, which I'm fairly familiar with. In other words, it felt like the same film as the theatrical. Anyway, I'll likely grab this if it's not too expensive.

The kills are more explicit, specially the Bill Duke scene and when John Matrix aka Commando shops off the guy's arm with a machete in the last quarter of the movie.

Hmmm.. I would buy the OOP zavvi steelbook, but now I'll wait for this one to see how it compares.
It has already one advantage: both cuts!
edit: oh, and the extras. (if it's true)

it seems from imdb, that the DC is 2 minutes longer!

Hopefully it's legit HD, but it's cool to see a Steelbook for it... even if the art is kinda "meh".

I have bought two blu rays from Japan so far but this converting to dollars or euro is a bit expensive so might wait till it comes out somewhere else.

Fox Japan have finally provided the specs for this release. Please note that there may be additional foreign language dubs and subtitles, and Japanese options may be hidden when you view the disc.

Contains both the 91-minute Theatrical Version and the 92-minute Director's Cut on one BD-50, with director's commentary accessible on both versions. The video encode is MPEG-4 AVC.

Video extras include deleted scenes, two featurettes, and the original theatrical trailer.

Audio:

1. English: DTS-HD MA 5.1
2. Japanese: DTS-HD MA 5.1 (newly recorded for this 30th Anniversary release)
3. Japanese: DTS-HD MA 1.0 (TV Asahi version)
4. Japanese: DTS-HD MA 1.0 (TBS version)

Subtitles: Japanese, English

Sounds really good... but pity they dropped the original 2.0 English stereo track.

Hopefully if and when this gets a US release they'll put it back and ditch the JP dubs.

This is highly likely to be the same disc that is released everywhere else, including the USA.
