This move destroys any chance of the PS3 catching up in sales in the U.S. to the Xbox360. While I still think the PS3 will catch up to the Xbox globally, it will never catch up this generation in North America. It's a shame but this means a lot of lame multi-platform titles for years to come from all companies. This move will pretty much end any PS3 platform exclusive titles that aren't 100% controlled by Sony. It means nothing to Blu-ray as a format per se, but it definitely hurts the PS3 in the console race.

Would one section posting loses [for at least the 3rd straight year] of over 1/4 of your operating profit be a disservice to your stockholders?

It's being released on the PS3. It's just being released on the 360 as well.

Where did I say that? Because I disagree that you think it would be better if it was only developed for one console? How does that mean I think it's perfect? Yeesh, talking about semantics.

Me, I'm a bit more interesting in noting that Square seemed to actually manage their world wide release window finally. Although I'm rather shocked that the NA market is getting it first. |

I'm not sure some people in this thread get that. The anger and vitrol I've seen from a few really have me wondering if they understand this vs. thinking that it's gone 360 exclusive outright.

Indeed. No one is saying you can't buy it any longer, and no one has anything to do with the development of the game, and no one knows any of the details other than it's multiplatform, so no one on here has anything other than an opinion. Unfortunately the majority of the opinions are against anyone else having a chance to play this game because it'll some how ruin their experience with it.

Yea..I cannot find the words.
Square had been re-affirming this as being an optimized PS3 exclusive title for years only to pull this off. I regard this is vomit-inducing news. Before anyone dismisses me as a fanboy, note that there *is* logic in my choices. A method to the madness if you will. Back in the PS1 and PS2 days, PlayStation had a nice healthy userbase both in Japan and outside of it. For ppl like me who are into RPGs, this meant that, b/c of Japanese userbase many were made, and since the userbase overseas was good too, most of them got localized. This M$ bribe won't phase Japan, but PS3 sales in the US will suffer from it. M$ is dead in the water in Japan regardless of their attempts to snatch more RPGs, so I still think long term, there will be more RPGs and Japanese made games on PS3, but now not as many will make it here. I've hated Microshaft since 1998; a near monopoly held by the crash-happy, blue-screening Windows 98 saw to that. And when I heard they were going into video games, and attempted to buy and/or establish co-owned ventures with major developers, I knew they had the idea of trying to monopolize gaming too. And I was no fan of the klunky controller or flimsy hardware either. Last generation they were a much smaller nuisance they they are this time. They started the trend of losing billions on a console just to stay around, and now both they and Sony have suffered monetarily. It really doesn't reflect well on the industry. Previously, I predicted the combination of FF13, FFV13, God of War, White Knight, and Gran Turismo would put the PS3 into a solid lead over the 3fixme and that the PS3 would become the default system for hi-def games from all developers. Now, I'm predicting a result more like the SNES/Genesis era: a technical draw. Xbox will still fail in Japan, but the final standings on systems and games sold will be fairly close. Seeing as I already own a PS3, I will get many great multi-system games on it. And I will be getting FF13 and Versus 13 on their respective launch days, on PS3. I do not own either XBox and I doubt I ever will. If anyone want to prove to me that I should think otherwise, check my collection on the sig below and cite specific examples. All told, I hate this news; I liked it better when I could count on nearly every Square game to be on PS and end up in America. I think this move will hurt those odds long term. My personal hope is that this ends up like the XBox release of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance: bombing hard and telling the developer: our games don't belong here. |

That being said, few companies should know MS's games better by now than Sony, so I would like to fantasize that Sony knew this was coming and has some kind of a response to it, preferably of the much needed shock and awe variety. |

The FF franchise as exclusive was one of the big talking points. Pretty empty ultimately. Sure, can talk alot about how Lost Odyssey was pretty much the same, etc, but it wasn't the same franchise, nor did it carry the same weight. Then there's also the frustration of having to 'program to the common denominator' instead of on each console's various strengthes... Which is felt to weaken the title's strength. Me, well, time will tell, it tends to do that ![]() |

Sony doesn't pay for exclusives, they offer free advertisement and such but that sh*t isn't working... Sony should really start paying for exclusives just like Microsoft, they invest a lot of money to get all those exclusives and I'm sure FF XIII got a sh*t load of money from Microsoft to get this on their system.

Also, I'm more worried about all the announced 360 RPGS. Isn't PS3 supposed to be the RPG system? I don't have a single real RPG. I've played a few button mashers that try to fake like an RPG, but no true one.... |

It is a business and they have to make their stockholders happy that is the way it works. I can see in the future that the only exclusive titles for any system will be by the system makers themselves. Games cost way to much to loss out on millions of possible sales. This is just the beginning be prepared and get over it.
