Default BD cases: get rid of locking flap on Side

Not sure where best to post this. I was looking up something else & came across this:

"This Is the Best Thing You Didn't Know Your Blu-Ray Cases Did"
"I've always wondered why Blu-Ray cases had that annoying flap on the side. All they seem to do is make the case harder to open. Here's how to fix that (without just breaking it off)."

http://lifehacker.com/5892071/this-i...-ray-cases-did

I just tried out on 2 recent BD purchases; 'A Boy & His Dog', worked perfectly! & 'Swamp Thing', didn't work.

I don't like the flap bc most BD cases don't have it & I always forget it is there & try to open case & then realize it has the locking flap & must 1st unsnap it. Also, some few don't lock in place so, it is always partially open. I love this (mostly unknown) fix!

Just did it with the case for "Leon: The Profession". Worked like a charm.

I've been tearing off those flaps ever since I bought one with those cases.

You have my authorization & blessing to NOT use this tip to bypass the flap. I have cleared it with the Vortex Legal Dept. <GRIN>

I don't even live in the U.S and I've known about this "innovative new trick" for years. The only people that can't figure this out for themselves where they need a dedicated thread to inform them of it, are those who are special and dribble on themselves

Not sure what living in the US has to do with knowledge of BD cases but OK...

They used to do it for security reasons, even on dvds but when you have them on $5 titles it's kind of pointless. Not many people are running to the store to swipe a copy of Uncle Buck. But yeah I agree, they should get rid of them. The tabs are poorly made anyway and make collections look junky.

Cool, never really looked closely at these cases, so I wouldn't have known to try this. I too have just ripped them off at times

Just tried it on my Donnie Brasco case.

Flap didn't fold and lock into place as described, and now case doesn't close properly.

Thanks alot OP.

As a collector for years now, I feel I just opened up an entire new world of possibilities. I feel pretty stupid for only finding out about this now.

No other country uses those particular cases (except perhaps Canada).

It took me 15 minutes to open my first 'locked' case! I had no idea ... to my credit I did accidentally stumble on to the hiding the clasp method! Just two loud clicks at the top and bottom of the clasp and it's hidden for good!

I don't think they were ever designed for anti-theft reasons, just a deterrent to kiddies.

This is one of the many reasons I replace eco cases with Viva Elites rather than Vortex cases.

Sometimes I buy stacks of empty Vortex cases just to rip the tabs off the side.
