Tragically, I think Ren's current mask looks too similar to Vader's mask already. So disappointing.

I have a feeling we headed for a big letdown...just a feeling. But if it gets us old timers what we want then it will have served it's purpose.

so the Sith relic collectors are basically going to be a group of bad-asses who run a Darth Vader fan club? in other words, JJ Abrams is trying to make characters that Star Wars geeks can connect to?

??? You just taking wild guesses here? We don't know that Kylo collects artifacts (we have been told that Von Sysow's does) also there is no Revan. He is officially non canon sorry...

Didn't he live long enough to annoy us one last time in the RotJ SE ("We-sa free")?

I don't mind a new villain that collects Sith artifacts. It only reinforces my belief that he doesn't really get proper training and is merely seeking out the Dark Side through old junk associated with it. I would be interested in how he gets the helmet though.

My biggest concern is that the film is too self-aware and contains way too many references to OT to be taken seriously, kind of like the new Star Trek movies.

The trailer looked surprisingly good, and JJ is the only director that could possibly make this good. Look what he did with the Star Treks, those are great.

There is concept art of the "evil cyborg" wearing a very darth revan-like helmet. While all the older stuff is not canon, there's no reason they couldn't re-use the design (maybe the name, maybe not) and just have it be some other, older relic.

What we were "told" was there was a evil cyborg looking dude who collected relics. Then later we were told that Von Sydow's character had cybernetic implants. Then the concept art leaked showing the evil cyborg dude holding vader's helmet which some people thought was Van Sydow, but then it was clarified that Von Sydow was an old beaten up war vet (presumably a clone, from the clone wars, but no confirmation) who was going to send the main characters on their journey. When that came out it was confirmed that Von Sydow was not the "evil cyborg" just someone with some cybernetic parts.

I'm not speculating, I've just been following all the leaks like a huge nerd. If you go back through makingstarwars.net its all there.

Now, all their sources might be wrong, but i'm just pulling together what they've said, not speculating myself.

Von Sydow's character is Kylo Ren...(the scene in the forest is flashback to his younger days...possibly involving vader. That lightsaber is an ancient design type..

or...

Kylo Ren obtained that lightsaber from Sydow's artifact cache...

Remember come 12/18/15..( I said it first!)
