Hobbit extended edition 3D? - Blu-ray Forum

I'm really hoping this goes on sale this year.

I could be crazy but I could swear when I was in best buy on monday doing last min christmas shopping that they had the 3D extended edition best buy exclusive steelbook for $26.99. I'm not seeing it on their website though. Might be worth looking (or calling) in store if this is something you are after.

It seems there is no best buy exclusive 3D steelbook...

I know it's too late for this title this year, but it was possible to get this for about $20 at BN during the 40% off all BDs sale they just had if you also had a membership to get an additional 10% off and a 30% coupon (which were supposed to have been sent to members). I got both AUJ and DoS EE 3D during the sale.

I already had AUJ extended 3D, so I used my 30% off coupon on DoS extended 3D at B&N

Yeah, I got both, one with a 30% coupon and one with a 25% one. But I was able to use a $5 of $50 coupon as well, after adding another title as a filler (can't remember at the moment what that was, but my total was just over $50 pre-$5 off $50 coupon).

Finally got myself back to a store. I was actually talking about the 1st hobbit. And it is a steelbook.

That's $10 cheaper than the non-steelbook edition on Amazon... $36.85

Will the 3D copy play in 2D? I know most 3D movies will play in 2D if you choose but I read somewhere that this one does not.

Good question. Most say "Blu-Ray 3D + Blu-Ray (+ Digital HD)" this may be 3D only and may be why it's cheaper than the one at Amazon. I have a set of 3D Shrek movies that was part of a 3D starter pack from Samsung and the same disc will play in 2D or 3D, but I have a set of promo 3D Blu-Rays of the final two Harry Potter films and they are 3D only. Most 3D titles I've bought have separate discs for 2D and 3D.
