![]() As to investors (Stevie?) thinking about jumping in and purchasing SNE stock…. well, even with the reversal in Sony Pictures strategy (from outright pulling the film to now making it available on a limited theatrical basis and online…thusly taping into the patriotism aspect of peoples’ sense of freedom of speech) the implementation of that new strategy will not recoup the $$ lost to Sony Pictures caused by the computer breach and its repercussions as described here…http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/patrio...the-interview/ Personally, and by ‘personally’ that means I claim no fiduciary duty (http://www.highpassasset.com/blog/58...ockbroker.html to any reader, so personally, I would not purchase any Sony (SNE) stock at this time…unless more specific (potentially upsided) info is revealed in leaked emails regarding the sale of its stake in the Sony/ATV Music Publishing unit (which I think now actually is the largest music publisher in the world, estimated value between at least $1.5 - $2 Billion) ….unless of course the nature of the emails themselves by having been leaked and, ergo no longer confidential, will somehow undermine Sony’s negotiating power to get a deal worthy of the true value of the asset and the buyer doesn’t view the whole thing as a desperation sale by S Corp especially after the Pictures fiasco. |

I've been liberated from the shop floor since February Penton, I'm enjoying my first Boxing Day without having to work in god knows how long. But Palace got thumped by Southampton so I'm not exactly happy at the moment...

The lead-up to Christmas was *interesting*. to say the least. Catch-up by skimming the last 5 pages of the thread starting with a post addressed to you here - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post10151582

Hey Everyone,
I was hoping someone could help me out with a question I have. I've been searching for this, but can't seem to find it. From what I understand, 4K Blu-ray Discs will be available in the late fall of next year (2015). Does anyone know what the launch titles will be? Many thanks for the kindness and help in advance. -Luke |

I want to know what the packaging will be like, I am really routing for something that is completely different from Blu-ray's. What I want is for them to be more like PlayStation 4's game boxes, I don't need to bar at the top with the Blu-ray logo it means there's less room for the artwork. Further to this once the studios have added the banner for the "this film comes with a DVD copy, a Blu-ray copy, and an ultraviolet copy" there is even less room for the artwork as that takes up about half an inch on top of the Blu-ray logo. One of the questions I have is will 3D with 4K per eye be available from launch? Looking at HEVC profile 2 I can't see it being there at all never mind with 4K per eye. Can H.264 do 3D with 4K per eye? |

Does anybody care to make a prediction about CES or discuss their expectations?
My prediction is... We will see DTS UHD and that's that, better than nothing. The suspense is killing me, I can't wait for CES or any other tech show next year for that matter. Speaking of DTS UHD anyone care to guess as to what it could be/do? My guess is that it won't be called DTS UHD and if it is called anything close to that it will be DTS UHD MA, as far as channels are concerned I think it will be analogous to Dolby ATMOS. Imagine if it requires a different layout ![]() |

Also, currently in 1080p 3D, storage is a challenge on a 50GB BD. But any how, I believe 4K3D TVs are available now. So including this at launch is not too far fetched. Quote:

In regards to non-animated titles, if the studios’ don’t want to give-up their *crown jewels* from the get-go at the 4K Blu-ray launch but, on the other hand, still seriously desire to make a meaningful impression with the launch of the 4K UHD physical media format…
a smart thing to do would be to choose at least mildly to moderately popular motion pictures characterized by an unfiltered look (i.e. no ‘aesthetic’ softening secondary to in camera or post production defocus) using sharp glass (i.e. good Master Primes, etc.) as well as content that leverages the perception of higher resolution - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...on#post9573269 |

The table has certainly been set by others in conference tracks…

Some 4K TVs, like the Sonys, don't even allow for over/under or simulated 3D processing of 4K signals, never mind anything else. Samsung's 4K sets are best poised in this regard, as they'll be able to have their one connect box upgraded when the time comes, but that won't come cheap. |
