The reason why there is no release of this anywhere in europe is due to an awful french sales agent asking ludicrous amounts of money for it that no distributor can afford

That's twice awful, because we're also waiting in France for a video release.
So they're blocking not only a French release, but also a UK one ? Fortunately (for me), I'll be able to settle for the US release but still.

I haven't been able to find who is distributing it in France btw.

no distributor in France. It's a French sales agent who are selling it, i.e. selling its rights to distributors, but not distributing it themselves (they are a sales agent only, not a distributor). Unfortunately nearly every single sales agent and film festival HATE this sales agent (they're called Elle Driver) so i can't see many European deals anytime soon...

Ah ok, misunderstood this, my bad then.
Still, quite sad to see people egos being in the way of movies distribution.

Would there ever be any hope of releasing Violent Cop, Sonatine and Hana-Bi on blu? Or do the rights to the latter two still lie with Second Sight? No idea how well they sold on DVD, but one would think they would be relatively decent sellers if could be acquired.

Hana-Bi is in my opinion Kitano's best film and one of the best films of the 90's period!

You know, I have a feeling these late 90's classic third window have been teasing us with are going to be Kitano films.

A Snake of June is an immediate purchase for sure. Over a year ago, Third Window had said more Tsukamoto Blu-rays aren't likely due to poor sales on previous titles, but that this one may be a possibility. I hope they keep selling just enough to get the remaining Tsukamoto films on English-friendly BD: Hiruko the Goblin, Gemini, Vital, Haze, the two Nightmare Detective films, Fires on the Plain, and I hope a Super-8 short films HD collection isn't out of the question. I already have the balls-expensive Japanese BD for Tetsuo: The Bullet Man, but that would certainly be a nice one for Third Window to do.

I've heard about the Tsukamoto titles selling poorly, and it's a damn shame. Either way, regardless of what happens with the rest of his filmography, I am truly grateful we even got what we got. Just having Tetsuo: The Iron Man on BD is amazing to me, especially looking that good.

As for the bolded part, I think if Bullet Man was going to be released, the existing Tetsuo release would've been a trilogy set to begin with.

Something like that might be possible. German label Capelight pictures recently announced 3 Takeshi Kitano titles for 2015: Outrage Beyond, Dolls and... Hana-Bi. So maybe there are some new scans available? Capelight has so far released Brother and Outrage in the past, both in regular and limited Mediabook editions. The Outrage Mediabook had a DVD of A Scene By The Sea as bonus disc. Obviously somebody at Capelight loves Kitano's work.
And I'd really love to see a Blu release of Kikujiro...

Great! I had lost hope of having the last two upgraded in the near future.

Without derailing the thread all too much, do you know if the transfer on Brother is any good? One Amazon reviewer says it's OK (I think), while another says to wait for a HD transfer from Japan. Just wondering since that may be indicative of the quality on the other releases. I don't think TW would settle for anything sub-par.

i got the german mediabook of Tetsuo 3. and since most of the movie is in english anyway... adam isnt to fond of the third part.

well we all could support more Tsukamoto with preorders (not waiting for 6 GBP price drops) and buying some of the other releases "we" would otherwise ignore. recommend the movies (bluray and DVD) to friends etc...

So it's ok to wait for Arrow price drops but not TW?? (Safety wink )

Brother looks a bit soft, contrast and blacks could be better. But having had four different SD DVDs (Japan, Korea, US and UK), it looks way better IMO. The Mediabook is currently available for under €10 at amazon.de and although the English track is lossy DTS 5.1 only (english subs are available for Japanese dialogue), I think it is a servicable upgrade until maybe a new transfer from Japan comes along.
