Doubled checked and the 3D was turned off.

Finally watched The Extended version Today/Last Night...
Gotta say, this really sucked...
I love the book, One of my Top 5 all-time favourites.

But damn, too much needlessly changed and added.

I'm getting the sense that extended editions are not worth it in the Hobbit series.

I've only seen the extended editions of The Lord of The Rings trilogy.

Oh. I guess I don't know that.

My plan was to pickup the 3D theatrical releases then probably grab the extended edition trilogy once a good deal shows up for it.

Your senses are wrong, the extended editions of The Hobbit movies are awesome. They're just not really as "substantial" as the LotR movies, but these are just shorter overall anyway.

The bonus materials are still amazing and make the purchase worth it.

The Hobbit Extendeds are vastly superior to the theatricals. Outside of the Saruman bit in RoTK extended, I wouldn't consider viewing the extendeds essential when watching LOTR.

I think the Extended Edition was great. It only added like 13 minutes so it doesn't slow it down at all, and adds some vital information.

When i first saw AUJ and DOS in cinema, i was exceptionally disappointed. Therefore, i only watched BotFA as i had seen the first two and went in with exceptionally low expectations.

Unexpectedly i thoroughly enjoyed the third movie and thought it was better than the first two (unpopular opinion i know :P) i decided to get the first two movies extended editions as i would now want to own the collection.

I really enjoyed An unexpected journey in its extended version. I felt that the extended scenes really helped lighten the tone of the movie and funnily enough helped the pacing. i particularly enjoyed the great goblin singing down in goblin town.

Smaug is another story for me. I believe it is the weakest of the three movies as it is mostly filler. The beginning is absolutely great. The mirkwood scenes have been improved significantly in the extended cut, but once the movie hits laketown, it really loses its way. Thank goodness for the excellent bilbo/smaug confrontation that really wakes the movie up, and the scenes with thrain/gandalf are interesting and cut well with the approach to erebor. i still have issues with the foundry dragon action scene, but overall i found the extended edition to be better than the theatrical.There are still issues with the movie as a whole, especially the addition of the politics of laketown, however the extended cut is worthwhile.

I can't wait until the Extended Cut of Battle of the Five Armies comes out on Blu-Ray!
Because about a week later, the Book Version of The Hobbit movies will become available!

No. I mean a Fan-Edit of all 3 movies with all of the stuff NOT in the book stripped out!
I have the Book Edits of the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy already.
They are the only way I will watch those movies.
They might not be 100% exact, but they are 80-95% closer to the books than the official versions.
But that is because of the limitations imposed upon by Jackson and Boyens.
No Tom Bombadil...
No Scouring of The Shire...
No Sam leaving for the Grey Havens...

That is something i want to see.

Can't really complain about no sam leaving for the grey havens as that was only in the appendix of LotR. The end of Return of the King was pretty accurate considering it was the final line of the book.

Accurate? With no Scouring of The Shire? It's an essential part of the story - depicting how the Hobbits were changed.

I meant the final line of the movie, the very final scene of the movie was the same as the book.:P

I was not talking about the scouring of the shire, although I see why the filmmakers cut it, as much as I would have liked to seen it depicted.

They still used Sauramon being killed by Grima.
I don't understand why they just didn't use it in the Scouring, instead of moving it to The Two Towers.

Surprised to see this thread active, but I'll go ahead and comment.

Saruman dies in RotK Extended.
Sam not leaving for the Grey Havens is perfectly fine for a film adaptation of the trilogy.
Tom Bombadil and the Scouring were not needed in the adaptation either. Tom Bombadil because he makes no meaningful difference to the story arc. Scouring because it would have hurt the pacing of the last film and wasn't really going to add much to the story being depicted anyway. Sorry, but film just doesn't work like a book, and after defeating Sauron having to clean up Grima and Saruman would have been anticlimactic and kinda' boring in comparison. Riding out the high of killing Sauron and destroying the Ring and sailing off into the sunset was absolutely the right decision here (despite all the bad decisions made in the Hobbit trilogy).

The Extended Editions for the Hobbit trilogy have so far been better than the theatrical cuts, Desolation of Smaug especially. Battle of the Five Armies is guaranteed to be better because the theatrical cut is a complete mess.
