I would take a chance . I've been ordering multiple large boxsets from Australia for over 10 years and never been charged once.

How much is the item excluding shipping? Less than 15 quid and you will be fine.

Shipping only comes into it if the item is over 15 quid. Then you pay duty on the total amount... and the dreaded 8 quid handling charge.

If you order from JB Hifi then they mark the package as a gift which should help it avoid customs but if it's £17 inc delivery then it must be well under £15 before postage which means it's customs except anyway.

I've had items from JB HIfi , Fishpond , Atlantic dvd ( are they still going?) DVD Orchard , Ezy dvd and I think another one too and never been charged duty once . Few have been single discs , most have been boxsets.

Most recent purchases : Die Hard Legacy from JB , The Ghost and Mrs Muir Seasons 1 and 2 from Fishpond.

My experience shows that items that are very close to the limit , even from the US don't get charged .
In the last month I've had the 15 discs Dick Van Dyke set , the Halloween set and some others all from the US and those didn't get charged either.

I can't believe all my Oz purchases have been luck

And the handling charge differs between companies . Royal Mail is £8 , UPS is £11

There's a £10.75 admin charge for FedEx ,but when I spoke to their customer service team I was told that if you set up an account then there's no admin fees
I will find out soon as I just got a delivery from sideshow collectibles today which is due a customs charge (around £28 not including any other fees)
I've never been stung by customs for Oz releases either

If any UK buyer has been stung by customs for an Australian disc can we know where the purchase was from?

I don't think so. It's the same as Switzerland, AU$ 7.80 (£5.38). 12.80 is for a box set (paid that for the Hammer Set). But it's 7.80 for each disc, they don't offer combined shipment.

Pretty sure they did for me in the UK.
When they had a Buy 2 Get One Free promotion I ordered the 3 titles and it worked out a total of £27 including delivery.
It was a great offer but I don't think it was just over £10 for 3 Blurays.

In the event 2 were out of stock so they mailed them all one at a time and the postage remained the same

Yeah its under £15 excluding delivery for items outside EU.
Unless you run into the same illiterate moron at UK customs that charged me £11.09 (inc £8 RM) on a £12.00 + £3.99 delivery item. Luckily Amazon US customer service made up for customs incompetence.

.

My guess would be that while your third disc in that deal was free, the shipping was not. So you would have paid for 2 Blu-rays and 3 x AU$ 7.80 for delivery, so that would be roughly £ 16.20. I put a single disc in my basket yesterday and changed my location to UK (and several other European countries as well) to make sure, it always came to those $7.80.

I was stung by customs with The Babadook from JBHi-fi, they put the full price inc. P&P on the customs note instead of just the item price & maked it up to the nearest round number.

From what I gather, it's pot luck as to how they mark it up as some people have had their JB Hi-fi orders marked down on the customs sticker.
