Default Home two years away? (no)

God I hate quoting Kotaku. They're a news outlet that only reports what other people are reporting. Anyway: http://kotaku.com/5025942/tretton-ex...g-road-to-home

"I would rather ship it two years from now and have it populated by a lot of neat stuff and be competitive than open something that is a ghost town," he said.

Uhhhh....... when something is two years away (HI KILLZONE 2 AT E3 2006), it stops being a selling point for the system. Second Life code must be very different to reverse engineer. I guess I'll eagerly await the PS4.

You'll notice that he doesn't say that it's going to be released in 2 years.

He says they'd rather wait two years than open it without content.

As far as we know, the Novembre 2008 Beta opening (which is actually probably going to be the only real launch of Home) is the one.

The 'open beta' is still locked for '08... but.... yeah...

HOME is essentially vaporware.

How is it so? When you clearly said that it'll be out this Nov.

Vaporware? C'mon, we all know that Home is very real. If it was really Vaporware, it would be like GT4 Portable. It would be just nothing.

I said 'open beta' was still planned for '08.

Beta is not a 'release' officially and basically means anything can change, be canceled/scrapped, or any other assortment of oddities.

Honestly, they should have just ported over TheSims and renamed it HOME and called it done then moved on to something more important.

Edit: There is no denying the complete stupidity of a CEO saying something like this in a public forum though. I mean... Wow. This guy is a PR disaster.

Beta will always be what HOME is.

If HOME can be a complete product, then it's the SIM. But Home isn't that.

HOME has nothing to do with the lack of games. Blame the devs.

Our very own Maxpower was stating how one particular Sony first party studio was pretty much completely devoted to HOME right now. I wonder what that studio could be putting out if they weren't all about HOME?

How can you interpret what was said as Home being 2 years away? The comment was obviously made in regards to why it has been pushed back so much already. He is stating that IF he HAD TO he would have delayed Home two years to make it right. Not that it is going to be delayed 2 years.

The problem with HOME is that they promised too much in too short a time to make it. It was either going to come out on time and be a disappointment or take years to develop because they were too ambitious with the project. I wouldnt expect it until sometime in 2009 at the earliest.

Proteus you need to chill, seriously. We all know you were disapointed with FFXIII, but take a step back.
Vaporware relates to something that will never release.
Home is already in Closed Beta and we have a window for Open Beta, which will probably be the actual release.

Duke Nukem Forever is vaporware...

At least we've seen video and reviews of the current Home Beta.

Homeless.

We've already been waiting a year, what's two more?

Personally, I think they put too much stock into it and hyped it up a bit too much. In the end, I'm betting most users will stop caring inside of a week.

I'd rather see them spend cash on studio support to lock up exclusives and to pay devs to max out the PS3 version so we REALLY see how it's better than the 360. Right now, the PS3 is losing on that front and there's no reason why it should be.

That developer would still be developing Home even if it was released... Home is something like PSN, Sony has decided to have full time development on both for the entirity of the life of the console... these are not products that you release and walk away from, they need constant updates...and I think we can all agree Sony has proved they are willing to put the time and effort into delivering constant updates / improvements as seen with the PSN many firmware updates already.

So to say think what else they could be developing is a bit misleading as even when home is released they are going to be continuing development on that project..

And yeah, that quote is nowhere near meant to be two years from now.. but is probably more in reference to Home's first supposed release date, about a year ago now..

I waited for the Sega Dreamcast, Betamax, Laser Disc and DIVX (the original player/movie renting BS).

I'd say that kills your theory right there.

Yes, and he could have been stating his thoughts from back at the time it got delayed.

If I remember correctly, I think Home was supposed to come out last fall, then got delayed until the spring, and delayed again, and a thousand more times, and now the beta should be in November, or something. That means the full non-beta version might be another 6 months after that, so say May 2009.

Originally Sept/Oct 2007, now May 2009, give or take a few months, and presto, 2 years.

Maybe that's what he meant.
