Is there anyone else out there who is a fan of the James SA Corey sci-fi series The Expanse, starting with Leviathan Wakes? Syfy is developing a TV series, and just announced last night/this morning that Thomas Jane will be starring.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...expanse-718034 A friend of mine turned me onto these novels, and they're excellent. There are four novels so far, and I've only read the first two. I was a little skeptical at first that Syfy was adapting it, but they seem to be really dedicated to making this their next big hit, and the casting of Thomas Jane was an impressive coup, I think. I like Jane a lot, so I'm personally very happy with this. If there's anyone out there who hasn't heard of or read the novels, I highly recommend checking them out. I'm not much of a sci-fi fan, but found the novels really gripping and engaging, and I cannot wait for the TV series! |

I'm a big fan of the novels, and I'm really looking forward to the series, even if I tend to have reservations about any original series on Syfy these days.
Quite frankly, of the cast members announced so far, the one that grabs me the most is Shoreh Aghdashloo as Avasarala. At any rate, the first trailer for the show is available on youtube. Last edited by jayembee; 01-18-2015 at 04:46 AM. |

SyFy calling this their most ambitious show ever.. lofty thing to say, since BSG is a thing. Considering the source material though, ambitious is needed. They also said it could run 9 or 10 seasons, at least, if it does well. I'm hoping that ends up being the case.

I certainly want The Expanse to succeed, but I'm not convinced that Syfy won't abandon it once it's become to inconvenient to keep. |

Glad to see the premiere date for this. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I've only read the first book so far so I'm a bit behind there. I think I'll watch this first season to refresh me on Leviathan Wakes and then get to reading Calabans War.

Well, that was a surprise. I was kinda sorta expecting the pilot to show up 'round about start of business, but it was available just after midnight (at least it was on On Demand).
It was paced rather deliberately, so anyone expecting a slam-bang space opera might be disappointed, but I thought it was aces. Does real justice to the book. I'll probably end up watching it a few more times before it's scheduled "premiere". |

I discovered the books thanks to a sale on Audible, and I'm mid way through the fifth one. Great stuff! I was happy to learn about the series.
I got the freebie first episode on Vudu tonight and watched it. They did a great job. There were several things and characters that weren't as I pictured them, but that's normal enough. They really did a remarkable job on the effects - the production values are excellent. That's not easy on TV budgets, and it raises the viewership threshold needed to keep going. I really hope it does! Last edited by MattO; 11-30-2015 at 07:55 PM. Reason: typo |

The first episode was downright excellent. Thomas Jane as Miller is definitely my favorite part of the show so far, but all the cast seems good. Avasarala's actress gives me that ASMR tingly feeling with that voice. That half shaved head hairstyle they're using on many characters looks cool.
I've read two of the books and I was worried this would turn out cheesy, so far I'm impressed. |

SyFy's new space drama "Expanse" has been dubbed as what fans of Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica have been waiting for. It appears to be a show that takes place in the 23rd Century where the solar system is colonized. Earth is controlled by the UN (yeah I know...not a good start), the moon is a scientific base, I think, Mars is a military industrial complex, and the Asteroid Belt is occupied with underground cities build into large asteroids, and they are mined for ice for water purposes. There appears to be a coming war between Earth and Mars. And the ships used in this series have that Battlestar Galactica feel to them. There also seems to be space pirates that attempt to hijack the ice mining cargo.
