I bought it both times, and for me, it's very much worth it. Not only does it have hours of extras, the film itself has a much larger file size and higher bitrate, and to my eye, it looks even better than the original transfer (which I thought was very good). The technical superiority mainly boils down to better resolution of the film grain, but even that is an upgrade I wasn't really expecting...so it makes the 30AE an even better buy for me.

Suppose it's time to sell my original release.

I will always associate "Angel is a Centerfold" with Linda Blair posing for Qui Magazine

Maybe because it was a different encode?

Are there any forum members who are selling a copy for a 'reasonable' price?

I suppose I'll have to check out the new release and compare it to the old release. Like I said earlier in this thread, my plan was to sell the old release for enough money to recoup the cost of the new release, but I like the darker look of the first release better (based solely on screenshots).

Man, I was really hoping to check this out yesterday, but it appears mine may be lost in transit. Showed Saturday delivery, but it hasn't moved since Thursday. Going to be a bit disappointed if I don't get to see the new encode.

Has anyone delt with Screen Archives over an order that is never delivered/lost? There's still a chance I may get it tomorrow, but want to know if someone else has had this happen.

You should call the post office if USPS was the one who lost it. If they can not find it then they will have to refund Screen Archives the money for the lost item. However there is a chance that they could find it. However I think it has to be a certain number of days before you can report it lost to USPS. Check USPS.com for information on what to do.

Great band, especially live. I saw them three times, once during the "Love Stinks" tour in '80 and again in '81 opening for the Rolling Stones on the same tour and finally the "Centerfold" tour in '82 with U2 opening(!). Frontman Peter Wolf was/is a ball of energy and they played pretty long 2 hour plus sets.

They've occasionally reunited to play East Coast dates since '99 and are in fact touring the East Coast and Midwest US now opening for Bob Seger but in the past year or so, they had a falling out with the guitarist J Geils whom the band is named after, and have someone else on guitar now.

My copy arrived yesterday, watching it later tonight after I get back from seeing The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies at the theatre this evening. Taken me nearly 4 weeks to get time on a day off to actually go see this movie.

Wow! That's a nice little film combo there! Enjoy both!

Well Partyslammer We are a couple of Older guy I also saw J. Giles open for the Stones back in 81 when I was in the Marine Corps I like Peter Wolf's solo music much better then anything he did with the J. Giles band.
Back to Fright Night I wish I would have ordered the 30th anniversary addition this is one of my favorite movies I bought the German addition and it does look good. This movie for me deserved the best available

I saw the '81 Stones concert in Houston. I suppose J. Geils Band opened it but I don't remember that part.

As for Fright Night I'm really curious whether the lighter (new) will be the preferred version by consensus (if there will be a consensus), or the darker one (previous and German release)

Yes, Centerfold was the first song I ever heard by them - it was pretty popular back then. I remember 8-tracks too, though I never owned any myself.

I have a feeling that it won't matter which is actually better. There will be a lot of people who say lighter is worse because they couldn't get copies, and people who will say lighter is better because they could. I'm just excited to own a copy on Blu-ray with the features.

Personally, I think the larger file and higher bitrate make more difference than the slight gamma shift. The new transfer is a "tighter" image.

But yeah, I'm just happy to have it with extras.

I just finished watching this 30th Anniversary Edition of Fright Night, and it's all good.

I've written three User Reviews today, and don't feel like writing another one, so I'll just say that this is the best transfer of Fright Night that I've ever seen, and that I enjoyed revisiting the film for the first time in several years.

My friends and I were 13 years old when Fright Night was released back in 1985. I cannot believe that almost 30 years have passed since this film's release, and I cannot believe how old we all are.

This is such a fun trip down memory lane.

My J Geils/Stones show was the LA Coliseum show that also included George Thurogood and a pre-Purple Rain era Prince opening (who got bombarded with shoes and trash during his short set). This is my old jersey from that gig:

I don't feel like reading any one of your three User Reviews.
