Currently not. Only the old upscale is available as single disc.

Didn't see in the previous page. Anyone know if this is the original cut with the OST?

Thanks for that, had no idea there had been yet another release in Germany. Three films on one disc though? Hope it's a 50GB Blu, have my doubts though.

Thanks for the link, but man... is that a horrible cover:

You would think that with Photoshop being around for a few decades, someone would be able to slap together a better cover than that.

BTW, is there double mega confirmation on the NIGHTHAWKS being the proper HDTV source?

Indeed. Need to know if the original theatrical soundtrack is intact. If so, this is a must-buy, horrific cover art and all.

Comparing against the capsaholic screencaps was the first thing I did after receiving the disc. It's the HDTV master.

Can't comment on the soundtrack though. Never seen the film before. I could check if somebody could give me a hint what to look for.

Don't have the disc at my desk at the moment, but I am pretty sure it's a BD50. Bitrate is about 15 Mbps which is not good, but acceptable. I have Warner BDs with less bitrate.

Maybe this will help. Quoted from the IMDB:

"When this film is shown on cable TV, there are 2 instances where there is actually additional music from the score laid over existing music. This is most noticeable during the disco shoot out as DaSilva gets close to Wulfgar - the score rises up and blocks out the song playing at the disco.

The widescreen DVD release from Universal substitutes two songs during the disco shootout. The first is "Brown Sugar" by the Rolling Stones and the second is 'I'm A Man' by Keith Emerson. Earlier VHS releases from Universal Home Video, as well as some TV versions, also contained the altered songs. The fullscreen DVD release by GoodTimes Entertainment contains the restored songs."

If you don't hear "Brown Sugar" and "I'm A Man" in the main disco sequence, then the disc does not contain the original soundtrack. There are several other soundtrack changes, but they are not as noticeable or prominent.

I can confirm:

- It's a BD50
- It's not the original soundtrack

Just watched the new German Blu-Ray on my projector and I'm very impressed. Yes, as expected, there are some compression artefacts, particularly noticeable in darker scenes, but it is 1080p/23.97 and looks really nice. This will suffice for now until another label decides to release it along with its 2.5 hour edit...yeah right.

Thanks much for the info. I assumed, wrongly, this disc would have the upscale from the prior German BD release...I passed because I got burned on it.

My copy arrived yesterday and I'm very impressed. This one is flying under the radar it seems as it's cheap and region free...nice bonus to have Paradise Alley on it also (though the transfer is not as good).

This is another one where they need to take the original soundtrack (probably from the Goodtime DVD) and the German blu ray to make a version that we really want.

They'd only need to replace a few minutes...

Out of curiosity I downloaded a claimed 1080p blu ray rip of the movie and compared it to my Goodtimes DVD.

Here is a screenshot of one frame from each; I tried to capture as near as possible the same frame.

The 1080p is at 1:06:21, the Goodtimes DVD is at 1:09:11 I think (could be 1:09:13, I forget)

I would have put that down to a PAL speedup but it doesn't sound like it.

What does everyone think??

Well you are comparing an Open Matte 1.33:1 transfer to an Widescreen transfer, Obviously there is going to be image lost, one is designed for a square TV and the other for a 1.85:1 rectangle theatrical format screen.
