Sidenote: I miss watching on a 19" CRT with its built-in speakers on VHS from 15 feet away and not caring about PQ AND still being scared by movies. Although even at like ten years old, I still messed with brightness and contrast to get the picture to look as good as possible. My mom thought I was nuts.

This movie is definitely a throwback to that time for me. Fond memories for sure.

I am sure most will not notice on 50-60 inch screens, which would explain why I saw no mention of this, but there will be others that will, especially those familiar
with the previous release.

Some aren't as bothered as I am and that is fine, as someone who has both releases, I thought it was worth mentioning to those that would want to know. We are all big movie lovers and it is part of this home theater hobby to talk about and find the best releases of our favorite films.
And I do thank you for bringing it up. I'll probably hold on to my original release now, rather than selling it on.

I received my copy on Saturday and watched it last night. I still love it! It also got me thinking how much I dislike the remake. I think what totally ruins the remake for me is the Peter Vincent character. Give me Roddy McDowall over David Tennant any day of the week.

forgive my blissful ignorance, but what exactly do compression issues look like?

I think that the remake of Fright Night is one of the better of the lame horror remakes in recent years. Probably just because I like Imogen Poots.

I agree, though, that the worst aspect of the remake is that Roddy McDowall can never be replaced in his role.

Macroblocking, but a good amount of the times it depends on what is doing the decoding; not all players and systems are built the same and there are often decoding issues that are thought of as baked in issues. I cannot say what's what in this case.

Is there an email address we can start emailing about the defects? Maybe if enough people inquire we can get replacements?

I'm pretty certain that would never happen.

TT never fixes potential issues with a new release or replacement disc. What you see is what you get.

And I don't think any company has ever done a replacement program solely because of some compression issues, have they? Although it's great to know of these issues, they are in no way shape or form a substantial enough reason by any stretch of the imagination to do any sort of replacement program over.

somebody said it earlier... this really is one of the worst threads ever...

first everyone's freaking out about getting a copy

then everyone's fighting about scalpers

then everyone's freaking out because their copy hasn;t shipped fast enough

then complaining about the case

now the disc itself and wanting Screen Archives/Twilight Time to address minor compression artifacts

I don't recall if any company has replaced a disc due to compression issues. Scream Factory certainly hasn't. Are these reported issues not also on the original release?

Scream would have to do recalls on all of their titles if that were the case. Haven't watched the new Fright Night Blu, but Brett C definitely confirmed already that his reported compression issues that are on the 30th Anniversary release were not present on the earlier TT Blu.

Yeah, they are all pretty ridiculous, except the ugly case & artwork issue of course.

You must be new here. It's a requirement on this site to obsess and nitpick over everything.

I sure wish Scream Factory would fix that for any new upcoming releases. I wasn't sure if the compression issues were just more noticeable with the new release given the brighter picture. I haven't seen my copy yet either.

This is a walk in the park compared to the NOTLD90 thread.

It almost makes you wish they'd bring back the TCM Halloween thread, huh? Do you think Anderson is to blame for this "screwup" too? Maybe he found a new job after all.
