I sat a bit farther back and the 3d experience was much better on my second viewing. For some reason, some movies on my passive LG 3D tv have better 3d sitting closer to the screen and some farther away. Finding that sweet spot for optimum 3d viewing is sometimes hit or miss for me. My final impression is that the 3d, while still a bit on the mild side, nevertheless adds dimension and depth to what is already a gorgeous stop motion film. The finale cranks the 3d up to medium for a very visually impressive scene! Overall, the 3d version of Boxtrolls is, for me, the definitive version of the movie to own. Oh, and the lenticular box cover is beautiful! Btw, there were only 3 copies of Boxtrolls 3D at Best Buy when I went to buy it when the store opened. Did any of you notice a shortage of copies? Just curious.

I didn't pick up a copy until Wed. Morning and there were only 2 copies left, but knowing the BBs around me, they maybe got at the most 3-5 copies like they often do when there is a 3D combo in addition to a regular 2D combo for non blockbuster rełeases.

I've got two rows of seating and I'm finding the pop-outs are better in the first row. Another reason to get a bigger than 65" screen.

Aside from Disney, I see plenty of 3D titles released. Just about everything that is in 3D theatrically gets a disc release. And that doesn't even include old titles from smaller companies (INFERNO, THE BUBBLE, DRAGONFLY SQUADRON, 3D RARITIES, MAN IN THE DARK, etc. etc.)

The only thing that has changed is that we aren't getting conversions of 2D movies, like JURASSIC PARK, PREDATOR, or TITANIC.

The 3D was okay. I didnt know anything about this movie and I thought it looked bad. To my surprise it was very charming and enjoyable.

Good point Jay. For weaker 3D films, sitting farther back can help improve the sense of depth to some degree, though for some very mild 3D films it won't matter.

If you're a fan of stop motion or animation in general, then absolutely. Otherwise, I'd give it a rent first.

I watched Boxtrolls 3D a few nights ago and I found it very enjoyable. The 3D wasn't spectacular, but it added a nice sense of depth. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie itself. As another poster said above, it's very charming.
