They're pretty much all like that, their encoder's not great at handling grain no matter how many bits they apportion to it. As Lyris said in the thread about Kino's US version of The Long Goodbye, the problem may lie in the quantization setting, as if they're unwilling (for the sake of a quicker turnaround) or unable to let the encode get as close to the source as possible.
