Popped in my local HMV today and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was £9.99

Didn't get it but may pop down again at weekend as it would go nicely with my HMV Steelbook of the first movie.

It's been that price a while, it just looks so different to the first one, they aren't even close to matching but there's nothing else.

Yeah that's what I meant, just having the 2 HMV steels, I haven't been in HMV since Xmas and haven't noticed anyone list it as £9.99 which is a decent price.

I'm sure if I got them, following my usual Zavvi experience, they'd drop to 4.99 almost immediately after they ship

Surprised to see some nice Disney selection on there....Sleeping Beauty at 14.99? and Tarzan! (this was OOS just the other day ) lol

Now I am really pissed I paid $50 for it when it was OOS for 3 weeks after release. It was OOS up until 2 DAYS after I sent payment that it magically appeared back in stock.

Yeah that must be ridiculous to go through

That's the one thing I can't stand about them even with their great products....are these guessing games they make you go through:
-- drastic price increase/decreases, on a daily basis almost .. is it better to buy now or wait and risk it going OOS incase it might drop?
&
----> when something is listed as OOS..is it really?

I was exactly the same. Hadn't realised the one in cribs in Bristol had re opened. Walked out with edge of tomorrow, days of future past, Spider-Man 2 and planet of the apes (after paying of course)...

Really nice titles on there! But these are listed as region B...or am I missing something and these are really region free?

You cannot go by what Zavvi says. You will have to do a little homework on this site to check which are region free and which are locked.

The database is not always 100% correct, but it is right more times than not in my experience. Worst case is to post in the steelbooks thread to see if someone can answer it for you quick.

Yeah exactly as Smigro said, the database is a good starting point.
I have found a couple times where people have stated something as Region Free when I knew it was not, so usually before purchasing I'll still check out that steel's dedicated thread in here....usually it's been asked/answered several times in there so thats always a good confirmation point too

It does seem to be hit and miss with the database but the official threads have been helpful for the ones I was interested in so far. Dang, I need a region free player! The artwork is great on some of these but the discs are useless.

Region free is the way to go. I got lucky and got a Seiki SR212S for like $80 at Sears before they were pulled from shelves and it has held up over the past year or so.

Not only does it help with steelbooks that have region locked discs, but there are also some transfers done overseas that are better than US transfers so it helps so you can get the superior release.

Yeah, this is definitely true. I was just looking at Dredd 3D last week - everyone was complaining the US transfer was terrible and the Japanese release was the way to go (granted, Japan is region A too but that's the best example I have of transfer troubles off the top of my head).

The trouble is I haven't found a player yet that will do everything...I early-adopted 4K, still want the option to play 3D for select titles, and want region free. I'm not sure that combination exists yet...I suppose I could buy a second player but then it won't fit in my media center. *ends first-world problem monologue*

I looked your Seiki SR212S up though - nice way to go!
