Nope; Cameron's already said that the Avatar sequels will probably be 60fps.
Only for the action scenes. He's already said he plans to use a much lower frame-rate for the dramatic scenes where people are mainly talking, etc... higher than the normal frame-rate but lower than the Hobbit films.

Basically, Cameron feels this is a "test" to see if this kind of frame-rate presentation will win over audiences and become a norm for big-budget productions or it it will die off.

Unless ticket sales are significant enough for HFR Avatar sequels to be seen as something financially wothwhile to the studio, the Hobbit films and Avatar sequels could conceivably wind up being the only HFR movies made. At this point it time, it still costs a lot more money to film that way. And, obviously, no clear standards are in place for Blu-ray/Home Media. So theatrical exhibition is the only way that is going to be figured out at this time... obviously the BDA is trying to come up with specs that can be used later on, but it's not clear how this may affect playback for The Hobbit series or Avatar sequels.

Things have changed. He recently told Empire that it makes more sense to "plug in" to the existing 48fps system instead of forcing through a change to theatrical standards. He also said that he'd prefer to use a variable frame rate because he doesn't like how HFR looks with normal scenes, whereas action stuff "strobes like a mother****er" in 3D so that's where he'd employ the HFR. More on that here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=6740 )

Edit: as GenPion just said

I'll probably end up buying the trilogy set at some point but for now I'm just going to stick with the Target exclusive for The Battle of the Five Armies Theatrical. Hopefully they somewhat match the design and artwork of the extended Hobbit trilogy with the extended LOTR trilogy.

I'd buy that steelbook set for the theatrical cuts even it is 2D only. As long as I have the 3D versions to the extended films I am good.

I love the steelbook, but I'm going to stick with the extended versions in 3D. I also sold off my theatrical LotR trilogy because I don't ever see myself returning to them over the extended versions, so they were just collecting dust.

There are a lot of different Steelbook mockups floating around the Internet. I can't even tell which ones will actually be released.

I am sure they will. But marketing wise, they first wanna let us buy the theatrical version. And move over in the Summer to push Extended Edition, somewhere in November.

The question that needs to be answered first is if they're gonna pull a double-up stunt like last year, when the theatrical edition of DoS also got an exclusive figurine release: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

CeDe.de has listed a Theatrical Steelbook edition of the trilogy (both for 2D and 3D), including Bilbo's Journal. I guess this goodie will be carried over into other regions as well.
