I don't give two shits about 4K, to be completely frank. The big studios have abandoned the idea of releasing catalog titles and the ones they're farming out to indy labels are, for the most part, coming from old HD masters that haven't aged well and are way past their shelf life. That leaves big blockbusters and other better-known box office performers, many of which have received multiple releases over the years to the point of oversaturation. So, what's left? What incentives do people who are satisfied with a Blu-ray collection they've built up have to start from scratch? Better PQ? Nah, most folks wouldn't even notice a difference. The studio money would be better spent restoring and preserving films that need it and releasing them to Blu-ray, a format that, to me at least, still feels as fresh and exciting as DVD was in the beginning. Pass.

No. Blu-ray in it's current form is the end of the line for many films I believe. I doubt that even half of my collection will be released on UHD Blu-ray. For anything that is which clearly shows the benefit, I'll upgrade, however I'm not afraid to continue buying 1080p Blu-rays one bit.

Nope. I might pick up a very small handful of 4K discs (my favorite films) in a few years once I decide to purchase a 4K TV (five-plus years from now), but it will never be a dominant format in my household. Blu-ray is perfectly fine with me, and I'm still blown away with some of the things the format can do.

The only thing I wish Blu-ray would widely adopt is the "expanded color" data that the Sony Mastered in 4K discs had. It would be a very easy thing to do, but it's just neglected because it's not a standard.

The % of movies mastered or scanned in 4K or higher is very low, and a 4K BD would be wasted on movies mastered in 2K.

Plus, Warner will just be flogging Ben-Hur, Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, and The Wizard of Oz to death. I think we all learned our lesson with that on BD.

No. I have no intention of upgrading again, buying a new player again and a new t.v. again, to repurchase the same movies I already have. Bluray made sense because it's a drastic and noticeable upgrade from DVD (I still buy DVD's by the way).

4K is a niche idea like 3D. It's not going to replace bluray. It's for those who have disposable income who feel they have to have all the newest things which is not me. But even if I did, I still wouldn't do it. I'm happy with what I have and when 8k and 32k and whatever else comes along, I'll still be happy with bluray.

Of course at some point all physical media will cease to exist since digital downloads are running the gambit and streaming gets better.The studios are obviously pushing that forum with back catalog reissues with digital copies. In the meantime I bet if 4K single titles dip in sales we will get combo packs to appease the consumer to adopt it with 4K/regular BD combo packs.

I'm eagerly anticipating 4K/UHD BD unlike the rest of you party poopers, but I'm not restricting my BD buying either. I'll just sell on the old 1080p discs when the time is right.

The first part is true more or less (though it's growing all the time), but the second part is outright wrong: UHD BD will feature greater bit depth, higher dynamic range and a wider colour gamut which can still be utilised by 1080p encodes on the new format.

For now I am buying BD's like normal. But I will upgrade my PJ in a few years (when pricing comes down a bit), I will probably upgrade my AVR to DolbyAtmos/Barco (denon XT32 enabled) etc maybe within a year. I really don't care about the 4K tv's because they are too small (relative to my viewing distance) for me to be wowed by 4K that I have seen at stores. I do notice the 'better' picture when I am standing really close to most of these tv's.

Nope. I'm great with Blu-ray. Blu-ray is going to be the last time I buy that movie. Did VHS, DVDs, and now Blu-Rays. No more for me.

There may be a set of specifcations and a prototype player but that doesn't compel any studio to actually invest in producing 4k discs. And it doesn't compel Best Buy or Walmart to carry them in stores. While you or I may not shop at B&Ms, without a significant physical presence to the public, any new format is going to struggle.

Definitely a lack of enthusiasm compared to last time. It appears everyone is satisfied with Blu-ray as it is, which certainly wasn't the case for DVD in 2005.

If 90% of people in this forum are not interested, what does that say about its chances? I remember most forum people being eager for the HD formats well before they came out. Even several "HD" forums were created in the excitement.

Since I got a projector, I really only buy high quality transfers. Not because of 4k, but because I can't support poor quality product.

I bought DVDs right up until the month that I purchased my first Blu-ray player in late 2012.

I'll probably be buying Blu-rays right up until my first 4K Blu-ray player purchase.

For some odd reason, I keep thinking that, in one of my past lives, I was one of the musicians that kept playing on the deck of the Titanic while it was sinking. I'm not sure why I keep having this uncanny feeling, but I'm fairly convinced that it's true.


EDIT: I still buy DVDs for certain classic-era film noir titles that are still to this day being released exclusively in that format.
