I remember when it took more than a year for a movie to reach home video. "Big" movies now have three-month windows. I wonder which "big" movie will break the two-month window.

Is that the order date or are we really living in an era of three month theater-to-video turnarounds?

Really enjoyed this when I saw it on Friday. It had great visuals and action, was very unique and was an interesting experience. Contrary to many reports the plot is a good one, as I said a bit unique and its nice to see something fresh Sci Fi wise. It does have a lot of twists and turns so you have to sort of pay attention to get everything as it is explained in dialogue, the story isn't lazy like critics say you just have to pay attention and as they are only into art film I can see why they may have not paid attention (cause they didn't want to) it is a sci fi film after all and when was the last time one of those didn't get mixed reviews... Overall I enjoyed it, I would have liked to maybe see a bit more of Sean bean in action but that's like with most sean bean films. It starts a bit slow so that's one negative thing but once it gets going its very enjoyable.

I think those were 3 months to the day (though Zero Dark was in limited release before going wide). Anyway, I believe studios have a 3 month window contract with exhibitors for wide releases so unless that changes, no sooner.

WoWS was also exactly three months (12/25/2013, 03/25/2014).

Studios usually have a home video release date in mind before a movie even shows up in theaters.

I lay even odds that Mockingjay Part 2's home video release date is Friday, March 4, 2016.

Yeah I know, but to put it up for pre-order when it's barely just started playing in theaters?

And with the massive delay of this movie, I'm willing to bet they've had this prepped for quite some time.

Seems to reinforce WB's low confidence in the film. Too bad, because I'm always intrigued by the Wachowskis, but if I only have to wait three months, I'll skip this one in theatres. Heck, makes me wonder how fast HBO/Cinemax will be getting it (from time to time, they get stuff right on the 6-month mark).

The Interview, although I don't know if that one would qualify as "big" if you take away the Sony Pictures hack story.

What happened with The Interview was not Sony's original strategy, lol. It wasn't an expensive movie, but it'll be a while before Sony makes its money back.

It wasn't expensive by Sony's typical standards but 50 million is still 50 million. It most definitely is not going to recoup costs.

Finally got around to this tonight. I really wanted to like it...and I did! This is no masterful piece of storytelling but it was written well enough I didn't mind when it got bogged down in a bit of exposition. From the get go it was beautiful to look at. The only Wachowski film I ever cared for was Cloud Atlas but with that being said, The Matrix, V, and Speed Racer are all expertly crafted visual affairs and Jupiter is definitely no slouch. The scenes outside of Stinger's house to the very wide backdrops on huge ships against planet horizons, this was top notch cinematography and from what I've seen so far this year, is one of the best looking films to come out. The action scenes were slick and intense and were never too long or too short, and Giacchino's score was a pleasant surprise as well. Redmayne never bothered me either. It was a quirky film to being with and I think he only enhanced how odd it all was. Gotta say I yelled "**** yeah!" during the
[Show spoiler]Tatum vs. Dragon Alien where he threw him in the portal and cut it off at his head
. That was just awesome. No means the best film ever, but it was a lot of fun. I'd give it a 3/5 or so.
