In the books, it is more obviously consensual. She says to stop because she doesn't want to do it there, but she does want him. It looks much more like an attack in the show. One of the few instances where they messed up something from the books.

I lost all of my growing respect and understanding for Jamie with that rape scene, watching it, to me it was clearly a rape. There was no consent at all. As was intended by the writters.

The fact some of you are playing rape apologetics is pretty f*****g disgusting.

I don't think you can get much lower than a child murderer, that's much worse than the incest. Love seeing him get hurt and hope there's more to come.

It WASN'T rape in the books! The writers of the show messed up!

Given that they state in the Inside the Episode video (shot before the episode airs) that Jaime attacks her, I firmly believe that is what was intended. Any interviews following the audience reaction was likely damage control.

I don't consider it a bad move on the part of the show. It's slightly different from the book (depending on whether or not you trust Jaime as a narrator in the chapter), but that doesn't make it a "screw up". It informs their scenes together for the rest of the season.

George R.R. Martin didn't write a rape scene in the book and never intended to. It was either a mistake by the writers of the show or it was done for shock value.

I understand that and I think the showrunners have done a mostly excellent job with the show(It's my favorite show of all time). But, I don't understand why they would give Jamie the same arc he has of redemption in the book and then throw a rape scene in there.

Personally, I think it's a mistake to looks at Jaime's arc as something heroic or noble. He's still a guy who threw a child out a window. He's not a virtuous person.

He had good qualities and bad (and despicable) ones. You have to take the bad with the good.
