I feel that if something has been out for more that a week or two it is up to the person who has not seen it to avoid spoiler (in this case not reading a season 4 thread on a show they have not begun season 1 yet)

I would be fine with spoilers from season 4 being openly discussed but will respect the viewpoint that some people wait until the Blu-ray sets are available. Season 1 is fair game

Never said it was not a spoiler. I am saying people in this thread should already be aware of the events of seasons 1, 2, and 3. If one has not watched season 1 why are they in a season 4 thread and do they really expect not to ready anything about the events the preceded it?

And your link was about what was to come in season 5. How is that a non-spoiler?

Packaging? It's the same minus the DVDs. Does the person really want DVDs?

I pay for the Show. Even if it's just the show on a disc.
I don't get it either man. Lol If they kept making a waste of space 5th disc and DVD copy for $30 then they would be complaining that HBO cut the budget of future seasons, they can't win.

This is not a Season 4 Discussion thread. It's a thread about the Blu-ray release. It is entirely reasonable to suppose that people who have not seen the show, but are interested in it, will pop into this thread.

Why would they have to cut the budget? This show is a gold mine. The money it brings in for HBO is insane. You think keeping the packaging consistent from beginning to end is too much to ask?

I paid same price for Blu-ray / DVD / HD Digital copy last year and this year I only got Blu-ray / HD copy. Why the HELL would i want to pay the SAME?
You're looking at it the wrong way. The DVD copies were thrown in for free before. If season 3 did not come with the DVDs it would have still been the same price.

Their packaging became inconsistent starting with Season 2.

Well that's why they re-release old seasons to slim packaging. So if you want consistent in that then you can sell your blus for the updated versions.

It is also reasonable for people who have not watched any game of thrones to be aware that some plot points from older seasons may be mentioned in a thread about season 4 even if it is not a discusion about the events of season 4 (which should have spoiler tags here, I agree)

At some point people need to be careful where they look and avoid possible spoilers for themselves and stop being lazy

I have not seen The Wire but I would like to at some point. I would not expect to be totally safe from spoilers in a latter season blu ray thread.

The link was two quotes from GRRM himself saying the show will be deviating from the books and discussing how much longer it could go on. He wouldn't spoil anything and many others agreed that there definitely wasn't a spoiler anywhere in the article.

As for what he posted it's clearly a spoiler and regardless of which season it occurs it's not a hard concept to use the spoiler tag. Especially when you chastise someone else for it and what they posted wasn't even an actual spoiler.

Have some courtesy for those who bought the blu-ray in hopes of getting into the series.

I agree, stay away from the internet, library, or friends who slip a spoiler from watching the show.

That guy was me. I have since bought season 1 and started there. Meanwhile my Best Buy exclusive cover season 4 stays safely on the shelf unopened. I'll get to it in a few weeks.

I do understand that coming into the season 4 thread there may be some spoilers. I also understand that many people die and reading that
[Show spoiler]Ned dies
is not a huge spoiler. Just don't tell me when or how it happens.

I understand your point but you forgot to mention the comments that follow the article. Some people post spoiler from the books in their comments

Even if GRRM did not specifically mention details from season 5 some people would not want to read that (you did not just post a link saying it's about season 5, you quoted him about the subject at hand which people would see as a spoiler)

Future season events (even very vague descriptions) are spoilers

Well, I for one, despite having collected all four seasons of the show thus far, have yet to ever see a single episode, not having HBO and being way behind in my Blu-ray viewing. Granted I do come into threads like this assuming I'll be accepting certain risks, though not all may be quite as lenient as me. Considering the minimal effort required to spoiler things, I don't really feel it's that much of an imposition. If people feel like it's coddling others, then fair enough, though I still feel it's a case of mutual respect.

P.S.: Own four seasons of The Walking Dead and four of Nikita, haven't watched any.

Nothing he said was a spoiler. If you read his quotes he didn't spoil anything. He would be incompetent if he did.

That is very fair. I have no problem using the spoiler tags, but really don't get how people get so upset when they are not used.

If you all notice, I did not bring up any of the spoilers in question. I come here for the talk about the blu-ray sets (specially the Best Buy sigils covers)

I think some people would consider a
[Show spoiler]comparison of the number of deaths in the next season versus those during the same period in the books
to be a spoiler, very slight but still "spoilery"

I bet GRRM has mentioned
[Show spoiler]Ned's fate i
n the past couple years...

Sometimes I can take a spoiler and won't care because I'm like you, I want to know how.
[Show spoiler]Ned Stark
dies but I want to know the story behind it. I'm almost done with the all ready out books and know how some characters die or where they are. I'm still going to read the story behind it. I'm pretty sure the Season 5 trailer is a spoiler when it comes to where tyrion is. Everyone wants to know why he's there and what's going to happen. The Story.

Now you're reaching. I'm sorry but saying the show is going to start deviating from the books and discussing the number of seasons remaining isn't a spoiler.
