I'd say just go with seasons 1-3 (or even just 1 & 2). The 4th season was almost infuriating with the ridiculous 'Willie Coyote/Roadrunner' thing that Dexter had going with the main villain. How many times did he almost catch him? Ugh. Somewhere before the start of the 4th season, I feel like Dexter's IQ dropped by about 30 points, and his decisions started to seem really... well, stupid. By the time the last episode of season 4 rolled around, I had lost interest in one of my favorite shows up on TV until that point. YMMV, of course.

PS: Not sure what the thread title meant, but DO NOT try just watching individual episodes. Although a few might be enjoyable by themselves, you're cheating yourself if you don't see each season in order, in its entirety.
