Interesting, east coast, west coast or St. Louis?

“We reacquainted ourselves with several short HDR-remastered clips of Life of Pi and Exodus: Gods and Kings, and the impact still blew us away. We had originally feared that blacks would wash out severely on an edge-lit LED LCD to fulfil the extreme brightness demands of HDR (high dynamic range) material, but that proved not to be the case.

We ran the UE65JS9000 (playing the Life of Pi HDR snippet) side-by-side against a now-defunct-but-still-considered-reference Panasonic ZT plasma (displaying the Blu-ray version), taking care to calibrate both screens to 120 cd/m2 peak white. There’s simply no contest even from fifteen feet away: the combination of super-high resolution, punchier whites, greater gradation and increased detail (not only in the highlights but also in shadowed areas) made the ZT look noticeably muted and softer by comparison. So powerful was this onslaught of resolution, contrast and detail to our visual senses that we weren’t even aware of the UE-65JS9000′s on-paper weaker blacks versus the plasma.”

Note to Vincent Teoh:
I’ve gotten thru all of Chelsea v. PSG in Champions match and despite me always rooting for an English-based club in such competition, I was actually happy PSG won because of the theater the Chelsea players put on the referee regarding the Ibrahimovic tackle which drew a red card.

And wouldn’t you like to be a fly on the wall during the grading of middle, 2nd row....http://www.company3.com/work/features/
If that link ^ didn’t go thru for some and instead you get facility locations, then click on ‘work’ at the top of the page and then ‘features’ in the drop down menu.

Maybe my time as a keeper though did influence why I look down so much on field players who flop around like they're dying every time they stub their toe. No room for that nonsense in the box.
Ah, so that's why you sound so bitter about the play acting nonsense - you hated being on the receiving end.

When I was at school, there was a guy who had his head kicked off. You never caught him complaining!

Oh yes, I can relate. Keepers don't take any garbage from floppers. We charge into forwards all the time.

The fun thing about being a keeper is that you can pretty much do whatever you want to an opposing player once they get inside your penalty area. Kasey Keller is my hero. That guy would try and kill anyone who got in his box!

It would be interesting to find out what playing position (in general) on the English pitch suffers the most concussive injuries (which potentially can be far more serious than facial lacerations or even typical soccer-related facial fractures)...keepers vs. field players???

A great role model back in the day.

Unless I’ve been perhaps missing out on some of the U.S. youngsters in the other top flight Euro leagues, our current best soccer export remains, you guessed it, yet another keeper….http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...rton-pastes-ne

Yep!

Tim Howard is another stellar keeper. His performance against Belgium in the 2014 World Cup was astounding and one of the best in history. For whatever reason, the US excels at producing top talent in this position.

In continuance from yesterday ^, a couple more excerpts to comment on briefly -

“Of course, the elephant in the room is the total number of consumer HDR content available on the market at this time of writing – a big fat zero. But it’s coming, starting with Netflix 4K HDR streaming later this year and Ultra HD Blu-ray by end-2015 (more likely early 2016).”

Well, there’s always bean elephants. Good things take some time to implement, e.g. “During the entire 1954-1955 television season, for example, CBS only made nineteen color broadcasts.” http://www.tvobscurities.com/articles/color60s/

”and of course HDR playback which is easily the most impressive of all next-gen Ultra HD parameters….”

Indeed.

For those who’ve not yet had the opportunity to view HDR video sample content in a good public viewing environment like that of HPA tech retreat, last year’s SMPTE Tech Conference in Hollywood, or NAB 2014, etc., here are some HDR vs SDR pictorial illustrations which I’d posted on another thread, see the ‘assets’ pdf - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post10480414

And a follow-up to said CineAlta magazine article containing a few updates/additions https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post10485983

And accomplishing all that with more challenges than most have had to deal with… http://www.theguardian.com/football/...phy-the-keeper

Speaking of which, I haven’t seen Kris Deering around here in awhile. Kris, as a fellow Navy man, if you’re headed to NAB 2015….heads-up https://www.magnetmail.net/actions/e...jobid=26660980

I watched a Muse concert off ultra flix and it was really impressive. I don't know the exact speed requirements for ultraflix but i had uninterrupted 2160p streaming. Up real close you could see some digital artifacts but it was really a treat to watch. The concert was a "Platinum 4k" stream which means it was shot and streaming in true 4k as far as I know.

Ultraflix has different quality levels of 4k programming silver, gold and platinum. Platinum = Native 4k
Gold = Older film transfers
Silver = Upconverted 1080p

Most likely using one of the NanoTech Media Products or one of the devices listed on the UltraFlix page here.

Wendell, you’re welcome anytime . The only one I fear a little is Geoff because sometimes, being the cat he is, he reminds me of this -

meaning, I’ll be looking forward with anticipation to watching some Premier league or Champions League match and Geoff will marginalize the experience by not using spoilers. Geoff, not that I have high expectations, but I haven’t gotten thru more than the first half of Monaco v. Arsenal from yesterday, so don’t steal me fish! i.e. please use dem spoilers if you care to comment on any aspects of the highlights or lowlights.
