United Kingdom Winter Sleep (Nuri Bilge Ceylan)

Winter Sleep Blu-ray

NEWS/TRAILER
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=15486

Quote:
British distributors New Wave Films will release on Blu-ray Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Winter Sleep (2014), starring Haluk Bilginer, Melisa Sözen, and Demet Akbag. The release will be available for purchase on March 23, 2015.

In Palme d'Or winner Winter Sleep, Aydin, a former actor, runs a small hotel in central Anatolia with his young wife Nihal with whom he has a stormy relationship and his sister Necla who is suffering from her recent divorce. In winter as the snow begins to fall, the hotel turns into a shelter but also an inescapable place that fuels their animosities…

Earlier this month, Winter Sleep was selected to represent Turkey at this year's Academy Awards.

Note: Director Ceylan's Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is already available on Blu-ray courtesy of New Wave Films. Click on the link above to see our listing and review of this release.

May try and see it at the weekend but otherwise likely blind-buy it!

I love Ceylan's films, especially Uzak and Climates, so I'll definitely be getting this one.

Like Artificial Eye, NWF really know how to ruin a cover.
So much text...

Yeah, don't mind too much though 'cause a surprising amount of people go by whether a film has won any awards and has good reviews - they could likely only afford to move them to the back if they were a larger company!

By the way it's not been discussed on here but over on the Criterion forums, New Wave Films pretty much confirmed this will be a 2-disc blu-ray with a long making-of doc! Which is pretty cool news. I have read some glowing reviews of the film as well as some mixed ones...had the chance to see it but opted for Mr Turner instead as this was almost 200 minutes long and I was pushed for time. Meaning I'll likely pick this up (though may wait a bit...I bought Norte on release week but still haven't had time to watch it and it's dropped in price quite a bit since then).

I really wish these companies would have reversible covers, same art but without all the text/stars

Yes the UK releases are often the worst offenders...

That would mean double-printing.

It's not that bad! You think people would be used to it by now?

Received it this morning (taking advantage of an Amazon Prime free trial).

It's only one disc, and has the 140min behind the scenes documentary.

boo, why one disc, that's a fair bit of content considering the long running time of the movie itself.

One of the most beautiful looking films I have ever seen, hopefully the blu does it justice, if it does we're in for a treat PQ wise.

If it's like in France, the making of will be in SD, thus not taking so much space out of the disc.

So different from what they originally quoted (2x BD). I would've expected 1x BD + 1x DVD at the very least...oh well!

It's in those slim BD cases which I'm really starting to dislike...

Winter Sleep Blu-ray

Fantastic film, well deserving of the Palme d'Or. Since Climates, Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Gökhan Tiryaki have been unbeatable together.

The technical presentation is very good.

^I wanted to ask that too. Considering a nearly 3.5 hour movie, a huge making of seems too much to fit on to a single BD. It would have been nice if New Wave could have considered a 2BD set to accommodate everything, but I guess the economics of that don't work out for them.
