Mine arrived yesterday from Amazon and I can't begin to tell you how great this blu-ray looks. Very high bitrate, beautiful transfer, absolutely stunning.

It's going to be out soon in France, so I'm more curious about the editorial differences between the releases than the restoration itself : could you tell us what are the extras and their durations ?

But the best would be to know : does the UK disc looks like it's UK-locked, or are there other languages / menus available ?

It appears to be Region B locked, can anyone confirm this?

Yes, Region B only - just received mine today. Good news for some - English HoH subtitles.

Just received my UK copy - English only but with HoH subtitles.
Extras: Introduction from Martin Scorsese, Stills Gallery, Interview with Thelma Schoonmaker, Trailer. Sorry no durations given.

Zavvi have done their usual practice with Studio Canal back catalogue. Not ship and delete from catalogue. They may relist the title when they get stock but that can take up to month as I saw with BDs like Swallows and Amazons.
Happy to wait as cheaper than elsewhere.

Yeah I was thinking about ordering it and saw Zavvi are cheapest but out of stock. They do this with all titles, not just StudioCanal - I had to wait almost a month to get The Rover a couple of months ago, and I'm now waiting on two Arrow releases (Network and Rollerball). Seems it can be random - all my other Arrow pre-orders recently were sent almost a week before release date and arrived before the weekend.

They don't delete them off their catalogue, they just mark them as OOS and that means you can't search for it (but you can on Google). It's generally not their fault I think, as other sites like Base don't have it in stock either...so it must be StudioCanal themselves or their supplier. However, it does happen most often with Zavvi so it could be their stock pickers just being unorganised. I generally find Zavvi are cheapest for StudioCanal titles though...you just have to be prepared to wait!

This is my favorite Powell & Pressburger film and I really want to import it dearly. Madonna's new concert tour has me buying very few BLUs right now.

also really think in the back of my mind Scorsese / Studio Canal etc will have a deal for a US Criterion release for this title. The Criterion commentary track is a must.

Anyone else get the disc and have any comments regarding the image quality?

Would love to see some caps a Holic comparisons.

I'm more than likely gonna have to cave and import this one and expedite the shipping.

Me too! I bought tickets for the London and Manchester dates and they'll be on this month's credit card statement. I also spent a small fortune on blu-rays in Fopp when I was in Cambridge a couple of weeks ago. I keep putting off buying Tales of Hoffman because it's relatively expensive and I feel like I'm being fiscally prudent... I've stopped pre-ordering from Amazon because prices were dropping before I got round to watching the films I'd stockpiled.

Peter,

I have images ready. Tonight and tomorrow are already booked for Arrow and Criterion reviews. So it will be at least 48 hours.
