I would also like to know if this is confirmed and where.

The blu-ray release is already beautifully done, can't see criterion really improving it and more.

Didn't you know that just being a Criterion release automatically makes any release better?

Packaging wise, for sure. But the A/V quality from the previous release is top notch. Either way, I'll buy it again, if this rumor is true.

Criterion didn't of course confirm anything, but the clue from the New Year's Drawing is probably one of the more obvious renditions of the real image there.

Besides that, there's the fact that Warner made their own release go OOP in November 2014, and also Criterion confirming in October that there will be more Malick coming, and they've worked out a deal with Warner for a few titles. I'm 100% confident this is happening.

Also, even the WB disc could be improved most likely with a re-encoding, considering it's an older VC-1 release. I'm sure the Criterion rellease will top it.

Of course the theatrical cut I hope for is the original 150 minute one, before Malick gutted it due to negative reviews. I really hope we get a definitive set with all three cuts.

Malick's 'Badland's was a Warner Bros. release and subsequent Criterion release - so it makes sense that releasing 'New World' would be on their roster of future releases. Now let's see if Criterion would do more replete edition of 'Tree of Life' from Fox?

Any idea how long it takes Criterion to release a movie once teased?

Often the new years clues come out the same year, but not always. I am expecting TNW this year, I'd guess around October maybe (Columbus Day, New World eh? eh?)

I don't understand.
I thought spambots made posts that didn't make any sense or it was advertising.
That post was a logical question relevant to this thread.

As well as a re-encode, and maybe some interesting background material, Criterion might give us the other cuts of the film. Malick's own stated preference is for the 150-minute "Film Festival" cut -- not the one I originally saw at the cinema, nor the one I have on BD -- so as a Malick fan I'd like to see it, probably enough to double-dip. (Probably. )
