I am very curious about this, as some of you who own quantities above 100 or so just don't rub me right (not in a bad way, but just in general). First of all, how do you have the time in your lives to watch ALL of the films? Second, you can't say that you bought the 220 BDs in your collection because you actually 'enjoyed the film.'
So, just wondering what the reasoning is behind the purchases. Last edited by EQ3282; 08-01-2008 at 04:14 PM. |

good luck with this one man..... gonna get HOT in here!!!!
I don't have that many blu-rays, just ones I like, but have a lot of DVDs (above 3 figures as you say) and I can say from that experience that I have many many many great movies, and enjoy them all for one reason or another..... few things.. I watch a lot of movies, and very little television I let people borrow them, or people like to watch them when they're at my house I got into the "collecting" thing too, so 250-300 of my DVDs are Criterion collection, of which most are classics/foreign etc.... I have an appreciation for film... it's different than "I like Sci-Fi" or "I like Westerns" (both true however) by which I mean I find the "art" in the making/direction etc.... It's convenience, as I don't have to rent many movies, although I have netflix now, so I can determine what new movies I want to buy without paying too much for renting them (it was expensive in the DVD days, of paying $4 or so to rent a movie, then $20 more to buy it a few days later) what else would you like to know ? ![]() |

I watch a few movies a week depending on who the Red Sox are playing, giving me plenty of time to watch my 165+ Blu's. While not all of my movies are excellent films, different moods require different viewing experiences. Sometimes I want to watch a great movie, 2001, or a comedy, Kung Fu Hustle, or an action movie, Die Hard, or a crime drama, Infernal Affairs, etc.

of your poll options..... none of the above fits with my situation.....
Currently I don't have too many, but I buy Blu-rays for the same reason as DVDs, and if I reach the number of Blus as DVDs, it'll be physically impossible for me to watch each at least once a year...... but with that being said, option #1 is the closest I can come to an answer for you ![]() |

none really fit with my description either.
1. Do I only buy movies I like? Yes. 2. Have I watched all my movies? No. Ive only watched about 90% of them, i have had Flags of our Fathers for over a year now and havn't watched it. A few other freebies I havn't had intrest in either like Stir of Echos, Pearl Harbor, 20 million Miles to Earth. 3. Do I Enjoy Collecting Blus? Yes 4. Have I ever bought a blu just to collect it? No 5. Do I watch my movies at least once a year? No, but Ive watched each of the HPs about 3x, Across the Universe 5x, Cloverfield 2x, TAOJJBTCRF (try to figure out what that is) 3x, 2001 6x, etc. So, some I get a lot more use out of than others. And if I had a nickle for everytime somebody came over to my house and wanted to watch "300 on blu-ray" Id be rich. A lot of people don't have HDTVs in college and if they do its usually a vizio and if they do have one they usually don't have BD. |

Well, that's my point. Why buy a movie if you don't watch it over the course of owning it over a few years? Why not just sign up for Blockbuster and rent it?
I just see some people on here say they have 100+ BDs (just a year into the technology), and the higher that number goes, the more I'm like, "How? Why??" I know this convo will hit a dead end at some point, but I just want to know why. Personally, I own 10 BDs, all of which are movies that I thoroughly enjoy, and will watch at least two to three times/year. All (except two I got in the mail yesterday) have been watched at least once already (some twice). I just find it....off...for someone to own so many BDs (many of which they probably haven't even watched, unless you're watching 1-2 BDs/day), that they can't possibly enjoy them all on a basis regular enough to justify the $20-30 cost. IMO, its more about VALUE than ownership. If I can't ENJOY a movie enough to justify spending money on it, I won't. Do I enjoy movies I don't own? Yes. Do I enjoy them enough to purchase them with the impression that they'll get a few viewing per year? No. But, I am a Blockbuster member. If there's a movie I like and want to watch, I'll add it to the list and pay less than 1.00 to view that movie. Last edited by EQ3282; 08-01-2008 at 02:55 PM. |

I certainly don't have any problem with the people that buy 2-3 movies each week...in fact, I encourage it so that Blu will keep expanding. But I'm in the minority here (owning about a dozen Blu) in that I only buy movies that I would pay to rent a couple of times....figure if I'd rent it at least 2 -3 times, might as well buy it.
My buying habits basically limit me to movies that I know have replay value that I'd watch over and over......for instance, Christmas movies during the holidays. Speaking of which......anyone heard anything about a remastered Christmas Vacation? or Home Alone/It's a Wonderful Life? |

probability of purchase (0-100) = (rating of movie) * 0.5 + (rating of PQ/SQ)* 0.5 so if the PQ/SQ sucks real bad (eg. 20), then the movie rating needs to be near 100 for the probability of purchase to be > 50 you can tweak the 0.5 for rating of movie and 0.5 for rating of SQ/PQ as needed (ie. make it 0.6, 0.4, etc) |

IMO, I would classify you as a collector. Its not a bad thing, and that's fine. You may enjoy all of the movies you own on some level, but to buy a BD and not watch it once you buy it is a 'collector's move' in my eyes. |
