This will be my first Fast & Furious in the theater since Tokyo Drift. It looks like fun, but reading this thread now also leads me believe they will definitely have an emotional send off for Paul. Cool with me. It seems to me now that he was like the male flip side of Mila Jovovich. He did movies like F&F as bill payers, but nevertheless brought passion and professionalism to it all, and did little indie films on the side to build his acting fred. I loved him and Steve Zahn together in Joy Ride.

"Furious 7" sounds like a reboot of Snow White in which the dwarves have to rescue her from a terrorist and are all played by Liam Neeson.

I rewatched 1-5 this week, and I'll rewatch 6 tomorrow. I liked 1 and 4 just as much as I did before, 2 a little less, and 3 a little more. I already liked 5 a lot before, but I loved it this time. It's such a badass, relentless, and most importantly, FUN action flick. Dwayne Johnson should have been in at least one of the Expendables.

I can understand why Vin wanted nothing to do with it: "They didn't take a Francis Ford Coppola approach to it. They approached it like they did sequels in '80s and '90s, when they would drum up a new story unrelated for the most part, and slap the same name on it." I consider the "main" series at this time to be 1, 4, 5, 6, 7. (3 is a spinoff in the truest sense of the word and I consider 2 and 3 to be movies that can be easily skipped). I love Fast Five. That's the one that really changed the series. It's no longer about cars or drag racing, but it's also just a big, huge, loud, fast action/heist movie. It's fun as hell. Some of the lines they give Johnson in this one are cheesy, but it's such a fun, likeable movie that you don't mind. The cast has great chemistry, there are some good one liners, and the action is well-realized, awesome, fun, and big. It's just a great movie to relax and watch. Same for six. Seven looks like it might be the best so far. Who would have guessed mostly horror director James Wan could have delivered an action movie like this? I'm expecting he'll be tapped for a comic book movie soon. Anyway, can't wait for this movie and I love how they keep getting bigger and bigger with each installment. |
