i tried downloading the first video using 4K Video Downloader and the highest resolution option that came up was 1080p/60hz
Anybody recommend any other sites or tools for ripping these to a format that will play on the tv? |

I've seen 4k uploads that looks worse than Blu-ray. |

I do agree with you I was just curious as a article on another website says they struggled to play them with a Geforce Titan 21Mbps internet connection.

the biggest problem with youtube is that it's not using the H.265 codec. 4K videos are absolute dogs in H.264

I've downloaded a few 4K youtube videos, and even though they use the same codec they are nowhere NEAR 4 times the size of the 1080p videos. If they were using the H.265 codec the quality would be much higher. |

But 4x the pixels doesn't translate to 4x the file size, not with video compression involved, because of the increased similarity of adjacent pixels in any given area of the 4K image vs. 1080p. Besides, as the Freakosaurus said, youtube is compressed to shit anyway so anyone using that as an ultimate arbiter of what AVC can do with 4K needs to look further afield.
If you want to see some decent AVC 4K content then go here: http://demo-uhd3d.com/categorie.php?cat=demouhd |

VP9 allows for 10-bit, 12-bit, 4:2:2, 4:4:4, and the Rec. 2020 color space. I don't know if/when those features will be seen on YouTube but VP9 can do it.
