2k is 1080p for widescreen movies. "I don't believe we'll be seeing 2k transfers of films anytime soon" heh, What? 1.9k (1920) is soooooooo 1% area degraded from the 1960 pixel wide projected image from a 2k (2048) Super-35 scan. If he only knew that something like Goodfellas scanned at 2k only makes a 930 x 1720 scan.
I guess I really don't have two hundred 2k discs. I feel so unrealized.

To everyone that posted about hot water and HD DVD playback issues, thanks! Working on a review for Harsh Times this evening, the disc quit on me halfway through. Running it under hot water did the trick and saved the review. And as pathetic as it sounds, I've got a couple more HD DVDs that I need to try the trick on. It didn't fix the disc's lip sync problems though, which wasn't nearly as bad as The Frighteners, but all three HD DVD reviews I've worked on this past week had lip sync error either in the film presentation or the extras. The Frighteners was severe.

Be very careful. I have heard reports that rubbing the disc too much or too hard resulted in the HD goodness oozing out all over the place. Just a word of warning!

This is more akin to the DVD-Audio/SACD war.

I just hate that the "neutrals" think they're helping. They think it's like PlayStation vs XBOX, where you can have multiple formats, buy either or both, and "win". This is Consumer Electronics. The general public expects a standard, and neither they nor retailers will tolerate multiple formats. It's confusing to JP6 who in the end will buy neither.

For BD to survive, HD DVD must die. Period.
Hmm, there I don't know. I think the markets may develop to the point where they could support multiple formats instead of a psuedo-monopolistic format concept. Do I think it's possible at this current point? No. Do I forsee it being possible soon? Quite possibly with the shift to Digital Delivery and MCPCs becoming alot more commonplace.

The difference I see at least, is the average video game purchaser is more informed about what console they have than the average movie [DVD] purchaser.

Can't find Bill Hunt's original article responding to Harry Knowles' endorsement of HD-DVD over on The Digital Bits. Knowles' article and Hunt's response should be in some kind of "Blu-Ray History Museum". Knowles' post is still on-line, Hunt's is not. Anyone have any advice how I can find it?

I doubt it can be found...it's probably in the bottom of the crater that resulted from that article. I wish I could see it, it must have been pretty good.
