Best Buy Canada Blu-ray Deals

I heard that some locations will be turned into Best Buy. Which I hope is the case for my FS because that's all we have is the one FS. And with Target gone that would only leave my town with Wall Mart. I feel horrible for the employee, something like 5000 jobs nationwide will be lost.

I feel bad for those with gift cards, Preorders and warranties right now.

Best Buy will be honoring the preorders and warranties. Pretty sure Best Buy accepted FS giftcards before this too, but they will now.

I hope Best Buy will continue with the FS exclusives.

This should have happened a long time ago anyways. They were competing with each other with locations literally right next to or a block away. All the main locations in BC basically have the 2 shops in close vicinity.

The marketplace no longer dictates a need for BB to own it's own competition. This is the move everyone feared and expected to happen over ten years ago when BB bought FS to begin with. I'm not sure if it will help the consumer any with better prices or selection. I do feel for those login their jobs, I've been there, still am.

This is a huge shock indeed. Went into a FS store yesterday and there was no indication they would be closing. Since it's the end of the month, I guess they decided to close up to avoid paying April's rent. Definitely very sad - our choices for movies are dwindling...

It will say on the front door if they are re-opening as Best Buy or closed permanently.

Same situation, generally I don't do new releases or steels but it's still nice to have the option

Wow. Crazy and out of the blue. I think I kind of liked FS better than BB generally.

Oh well, guess it was a sham having both anyways as they had everything at the same price and all the same deals anyway.

It's my birthday today. My daughters game me a Future Shop Gift card. I took one of my daughters to the mall to go to FS and we came up the escalator, it's closed and covered with signs saying they are permanently closed. What is funny is that they bought the GC just last night.

Feel for the people losing their jobs, hopefully they will bounce back. As a consumer it isn't a big deal, BB & FS were pretty much the same. I assume all the exclusives FS was receiving now will goto BB.

I was waiting on getting the Rambo and the 2 Hobbit steelbooks until next month so hopefully Best Buy will start carrying them.

Edit: And I wonder if the eCertificate code I got from Future Shop because of the Maude price error will work on Best Buy's site?

Edit 2: Just read the FAQs. The ecertificate should work on Best Buy's site.

Well given that Best Buy US has been receiving these steelbooks for a year or so, I'm sure the FS steels will make there way to Best Buy Canada.

Best Buy hasn't seen all the same steels we have. Sometimes Futureshop has unique ones or exclusives such as the Mondo steels. Hopefully we start seeing these elsewhere now!

i dont buy as much from future or bestbuy amazon is so much cheaper and easy to deal with
but i did love the looking at movies in store and price matching bestbuy with future shop
its the steelbooks that future shop was good for

Is that the Coquitlam Centre location? Do they still have the Best Buy located across the street? Surrey Place Mall, or whatever it's called now, also had a FS and BB. Clearly in those situations it makes sense closing one of the stores, but I'm hoping that other situations where the FS is more "standalone" they will rebrand.

Funny thing is, I haven't been to FS for months because they simply no longer have much of interest on offer. But this Friday I popped in because sometimes they have a few Criterion titles. Didn't see any of those I wanted, but I did manage to score a bunch of other stuff like Kingpin, the Crocodile Dundee double-feature, the Magnificent Seven collection, the Planet of the Apes collection, the Alien Quadrilogy and a couple others for great prices. I think in total I ended up with 17 movies for a total of about $85.
