I'm perfectly fine with that scene staying cut.

Yeah, I mean, I'm anti-censorship but we're not losing any plot details, special effects or production design there, just quite a few extra seconds in one scene of what was already explicitly shown in the censored one. If this is the R-rated cut I certainly wouldn't boycott it for that, it's not like we're losing anything we're used to (unless you imported the German DVD).

It's jarringly cut, though. In the UK we've only ever had the uncut version, so when I first imported the R1 DVD it was disposed of pretty quickly.

I never had any idea and I've watched the DVD/Blu-ray a bunch of times, but yeah, you foreigners understandably would want to avoid this Now, I bet the next time I watch it I'll notice that it seems censored and be annoyed.

I checked out my Japanese DVD of the uncut version and the difference in running time makes up almost 2 minutes that was cut. That much I did remember, but wanted to confirm. That one scene making up about 20-30 seconds, another one about 25 seconds and individual cuts that last from frames to seconds, mostly in regards to every time one of the female bodies are shown. For instance, in the cut version, it will only show a side view or head shot, but full frontal in the longer cut.

I would prefer the uncut version, but I know it will not get a BD release, at least in the US. I will hang on to the DVD I have of it.

I think its underrated too, probably because of Jennifer Lopez being in it. I'm looking forward to this. I wish it was the unrated cut. Not that I have any desire to watch Vincent whack it, but I'll take the directors vision over the ****nuts at the MPAA anytime, on general principal.

Can you find any source backing up any of this? I can't find any evidence of anything other than the first scene being censored in the US, but I can't find anything about the Japanese version so maybe it is more explicit than the "uncut" European version that everyone talks about.

Every scene regarding this corpse leading up to that moment has been altered or cut and it does not play out all at once.

If you go to this link below it does actually give an idea of the differences.
whether one sees it as important is up to the individual, but it is almost two minutes of footage.

http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=3627754

14 changes parts, including
* 5x alternative footage
* 1x longer shot in the Theatrical Version
* 2 recuts

Difference: 115,3 sec (= 1:55 min)

Here is the Japanese DVD that I have had for well over a decade.
It was considered the best DVD release in the world of this film.
A two disc special edition, uncut, high bitrate picture and full bitrate DTS.

Ah, I counted that all as one scene while you did not. It is a lot of footage for that one event, though. I guess we're just lucky they even left in enough to make it clear what was happening and didn't mess with any of the rest of the movie.

Of course the Amazon price will drop in time, but for those who don't want to wait, it's now available at B&N for $8.90.

I have the Canadian release, but I would upgrade if a superior transfer is released. I enjoyed The Fall too, but The Cell seems to move a little faster and has a more interesting story.

Count me among those who would describe this movie as a masterpiece due to the very inventive and beautiful imagery of the dream sequences. It's a visual feast, and deserving of a top-notch remaster.

I'd like to see something like this on the slip: "New High Definition Transfer Supervised by Director Tarsem Singh and Cinematographer Paul Laufer." You have to give people a reason to dip again!

It's about time they release a "proper" version of The Cell. So far there is only the bare bone Canadian version on BD for it. While its PQ looks stunningly good, there is simply NOTHING to offer on the special features front! It has been "bugging" for years, and I wish this US release will include all of the extra stuff featured on the original DVD.

Yeah, I definitely think Hannibal owes a big debt to this movie.

So, with this being a Warner's film... Chances to ever see this being uncut equals 0.00000000000...percent...

Also, a fellow ZEO Ranger was in this....

So, it looks like all of the features will be ported over. Can finally trade my DVD (okay, thinking about it).
