How about
Edward Norton as the Riddler?
Timothy Spall (wormtail in the Harry Potter Movies) as the Penguin?
Nicole Kidman as Catwoman?

Just a thought

It's not a too good thing. It's a, he's only tied down to two movies, while Bale was tied to three. And Nolan has said in the past, The Dark Knight is his last one. Take that for what it's worth though.

Default The Truth About Those Dark Knight Sequel Casting Rumors

The Truth About Those Dark Knight Sequel Casting Rumors

Personally I can't believe people are so Bat gaga that they'll give this much credence to an article from The National Enquirer. Here's an editorial from slashfilm on the subject of everyone's Deppforia for the Riddler:

Quote:
Since The Dark Knight is headed to become the second biggest grossing film of all time (domestically), rumors have already begun as to what villains will be featured in the enevitable sequel. The latest from the rumor mill has Johnny Depp as The Riddler, Angelina Jolie as The Catwoman, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. Oh my!

Wouldn’t Johnny Depp make a great Riddler? Yeah, BUT the truth of the matter is that Christopher Nolan has not yet signed on for a third Batman film. His brother and screenwriter Jonathan Nolan is supposedly still on the set doing work for Terminator Salvation. And who knows what David Goyer is up to. Even if he is busy penning a treatment, which is doubtful, I’m confident that casting talks won’t take place for quite some time. Nolan is also the type of guy to cast a role only when he has a script in hand. So I’m sure we won’t hear any casting announcements any time soon. But also take note that none of the actors who have played villains thus far were considered A-listers. And by that I mean, none of them alone could (at least, at the time) open a big blockbuster movie.

As to which villains will be featured in the next Batman film?

Goyer recently told MTV that Chris has decided on a theme for a potential third film. And anyone who has seen either of Nolan’s Batman films know that the theme is inexorably tied to the villain. And while I can easily imagine someone like The Riddler in the Nolanverse, turned into a serial killer who leaves clues behind. I can’t quite imagine a theme based on The Riddler, which would effect Bruce Wayne. And the same could be said for many of the prominent characters in the Batman franchise.

And remember, Goyer and Nolan told us that with 70 years of Batman history, they are more interested in some of the “dozens if not hundreds of other characters” that “had not been in the movies before, and had not been in the sixties TV show before.” My guess is that the villain might not be anyone we expect.
Here's the original article posted some time ago here in the forum:

I personally think Ryan Phillippe would make a fantastic Riddler. He is not so well known, but still on peoples radar (very much like Ledger). Would be great for the cyber terrorist angle if thats what Nolan is looking for.
How do you see Ryan Phillippe as the Riddler over a versatile actor like Depp

Yeah, I remember seeing pictures of him from Brokeback Mountain scenes with the Joker face photoshopped on him, all over the internet. Now he'll probably go down as one of the greatest comic book movie villains of all time.

Nice double post. I can see Johnny Depp as the Riddler, but I would rather have a different villain that has not been portrayed yet. Hush would be good, they mention Killer Croc in Gotham Knight.

Thank you, jason, for posting that. People forget how long it takes to cast someone. It took around a year for them to cast Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face after they had finished the script. And before the script was done, they had nobody. So, as of now, they don't have anybody cast. They don't even have a third movie going yet.

They both stated 70 years of Batman has given quite a number of villians. Based on the article I would say there will be no Penguin, and no Catwoman. I think Johnny Depp could play a good Riddler, but I'd like to see someone else play the role someone not quite so famous, that can really pull it off. I don't want to see another Jim Carey Riddler. Joel Schumacher really messed up the Batman franchise.... Christopher Nolan has done great with the new Batman franchise. Christian Bale is the best Batman....

Hmmm who to play The Riddler.... how about, hmmmm Paul Bettany, and we get James Purefoy to play Hush he would work well at being the same age as Bruce Wayne..... check this out....

Origin
Dr. Thomas Elliot was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne. Like Bruce Wayne, Elliot was born into a wealthy family. Unlike Wayne, however, Elliot hated his parents. Driven by his desire for independence and wealth, he cut the brakes on his parents' car, causing a crash that killed his father. His mother was saved in an emergency operation by Dr. Thomas Wayne, which enraged young Elliot. His anger was fueled further by the subsequent murder of the Waynes, which put Bruce Wayne in just the situation Elliot had hoped to create for himself. Elliot's mother later succumbed to cancer, leaving him with the family fortune. Although he went on to Harvard and became a successful surgeon, Elliot continued to hold an irrational grudge towards his childhood friend.

At some point in his career, Elliot became the doctor of Edward Nigma (also known as the Riddler). Nigma, diagnosed with terminal cancer, eventually hijacked one of Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus pits to regain his health. During this mystical treatment, which renders the participant temporarily insane, the highly intelligent Nigma experienced an unexpected epiphany, realizing that Bruce Wayne was Batman. After discovering that they had a common hatred for Bruce Wayne, Elliot and the Riddler decided to pool resources to bring him down. To this end, Elliot created for himself the persona of Hush.

I think this could work very well....Do some tweaking to the story above to make it work in Nolan's vision of Batman and I think you've got a winner....
Anyone read this cool spin for the new movie if they do one???? But change what I said in earlier post and make Paul Bettany The Riddler....

all of this just sounds like the news reporting on fanboy rumors and speculation.

Not a fan of Crispin Glover.

Bring on Batman 3
by Mike Krumboltz
August 4, 2008 03:26:42 PM

"The Dark Knight" is still on the tip of everyone's tongue. But now, instead of folks breathlessly asking each other if they'd seen it, talk has turned to speculation over Batman's next foe. Who's it gonna be?

iVillage is reporting that the Caped Crusader may take on the Riddler in "Batman 3." According to the rumor mill, Johnny Depp might sign on to play the nefarious super-criminal. But caveat emptor—this could be just as false as the one about Crispin Glover playing the Joker.

Slashfilm notes that there are additional possibilities floating around. For instance, Phillip Seymour Hoffman may play the Penguin or Angelina Jolie could don Catwoman's skin-tight suit. Truth or fiction, fanboys around the world must be having a heart attack at the mere possibility.

Still, the "official" rumor mill is just one of the ways superfans are checking in on the next Batman flick. Many seek the scoop themselves. We've noticed impressive searches on "batman 3 rumors," "dark knight sequel casting rumors," and "batman's next villain."

That last query is very telling. People clearly want to know the answer, but we doubt even the filmmakers have decided. To that end, may we offer the studio execs this humble piece of Search-informed advice: Go with Catwoman. She's far-and-away the most popular baddie and there are already a slew of searches on possible cast members including Jessica Biel, Amy Adams, and, wait for it, Maggie Gyllenhaal. Do fans think Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne's one-and-only, was really the Catwoman all along?

i think people forget that the third film has to outdo the second film. Put in a wrestler like Bane does not assure fans of a great film and I am positive Nolan will not put him in the film. I don't like Catwoman but there's no other female lead or love interest and unless Batman turns gay in the next film, it'll prob be Catwoman, Riddler and I'd love to see the epsiode of Batman 'Judgement Day' brought to the big screen. Perfect story and it assures Warner Bros. another smash hit. Check it out if you haven't seen it and let me know if you're suprised by the ending!

Well there's Ragdoll, Man-Bat, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Bane, Killer Croc, Black Mask, Mad Hatter, Firefly, Catwoman, Clayface, Hugo Strange, Killer Moth, Scarface but most of these are unlikely villains for the final film
