It must just be a wonky title in their search engine. The comma was the issue for me; I guess it has other search issues as well. Maybe that's why it's taking longer than usual for the last copies to sell out - no one can find it.

You should move it up in your pile, it was a blind buy for me, I i really liked it.

I would like to see it too but honestly I can't stand
[Show spoiler]that curved image on a flat screen..

Also I don't like that it's completely degrained.
Although i assume they did that because the negatives weren't in good shape.

How The West Was Won is like that too and I liked the effect, my mind's eye started imagining I actually was watching it on a big curved screen and it worked well. Screencaps make it look odd, but in play it's much better.

Would a 65mm negative/ 70mm print have much grain to begin with?

I would love to hear your impression of Gwangi. It's always been my favorite Harryhausen movie which probably puts me in the minority but I can't wait for its BD release. I know Gwangi has always had color timing issues but I thought, with a proper hi def remastering it would look fantastic. Too bad TT can't get their hands on all the remaining Harryhausen films.

Oh, as you go up grain reduces? I didn't know...
Again, I don't think it would look like this.
Anyway, sorry for the off topic discussion on this film.

What color issues specifically are you referring to? When watching this HD version I never really noticed color issues, but it's been probably over 10 years since I watched the DVD so I'm not sure if it's any different from that. If the DVD had them, I'm not sure if this fixed them. All the skin colors and scenery looks pretty natural to me. There's a lot of dodgy day for night, but there's no fixing that unless you want to George Lucas the movie. The dinosaurs are all purple, but that seems to just be what color the models are. It's pretty funny when they cut between the props and the puppets (ex the pterodactyl fight) as the actor's clothes look identical colorwise between the shots where he's superimposed with the puppet and the shots where he's wrestling a dummy, but the dummy is a radically different color to the puppet. Ah well.

Basically, the movie looks pretty good whenever there are no effects. The outdoors shots in particular look pretty good and have great detail. Other shots look pretty bad. The grain is all there and there's a fair amount of print damage but nothing too bad, there's some distracting flickering in some scenes. However, ALL the effects shots look really bad, like it barely looks better than DVD level of bad. The jump in quality between the effects shots and non-effects shots seems worse than on the other Harryhausen blurays. I dunno if it's just how the movie was filmed compared to those, or what, but yeah. Overall it's certainly much better than the DVD but it's in no fit shape to go straight onto a bluray I don't think, unless the way it was filmed just means the effects shots will all look really bad no matter what. Considering this is a streaming copy, it's hard to tell how much better it would look on disc since obviously the compression is far worse, but my impression was that while a big step up from DVD it still would need a re-do to be ready for bluray.

Thanks for the feedback. The dvd of Gwangi has Gwangi looking different color wise. Sometimes gray, sometimes blue, greenish, goldish, purplish. Sounds like they fixed that. There's also the flickering issue but looks like that carried over. Hopefully Warner Archives will see fit to have a properly cleaned up blu-ray released soon.

I just went back and rewatched a bunch of the effects sequences. They don't ALL look bad, in particular most of the shots in the cathedral at the end look quite good. It seems like the bigger the models are in the frame, the better the shot looks. I think it's just an issue with the technique he used, it seems like the projection screens he used for the live action/background elements are often out of focus while the models themselves look crystal clear, so the more screen was in the shot, the worse it looks. The models themselves even in the bad shots certainly look better than DVD quality, but the out-of-focus backgrounds still look awful. It's probably unfixable and inherent in the source. The worst looking shots like this are generally the ones in the rodeo (even the composite shots that don't have any stop motion involved).

Gwangi does look different colorwise in some shots but I think it's just down to lighting on the model cause the other elements in the shots tend to stay consistent.

Is anyone else going to release The Driver in the US, or is this it?

The 3 year contract in the US is up in June 2016, someone else could contract it after that but it hasn't even sold out the 3,000 units TT produced

I appreciate the info. I'd like to see Sony remaster The 7th Voyage of Sinbad in 4k and give it to TT. The Sony HD audio is great but the picture quality is lacking. I'm sure it would sell 5,000 copies pretty quickly.
