Could this be yet another trasnfer of this movie, as the UK is an Optimum Home Entertainment release, but here it says Studio Canal, or do they use the same transer, encode, specs, etc.?

Optimum are no more - they were bought by Studio Canal so this will likely be the same transfer.

Can anyone confirm if this is region B "locked" or if it can be played on a region A
player?

Well, if the UK release, which I reckon this release will use, is any indication, then it appears to be region B locked:

@Bluyoda: Ok, thanks. Bummer though. I have the US version and unlike the UK one, it doesn't have DTS Master Audio. 😞

Can't you mod your player to be region free? It's definitely the way to go with BD, as there are so many releases overseas that the US doesn't have (yet).
At the very least you'd have a great package.

What player do you have? Eitehr way, I suggest doing some research here. It really pays off not having to worry about the region. It's so liberating.

I have only watched bits and pieces on network TV and what I saw intrigued me enough to get this.

From I have read most people feel the movie is good up until the end where the plot falls apart a bit IIRC.

You have never seen it?

I am not a fan of horror movies at all, but this one has a great atmosphere, and it's funny too.
Lots of foggy scenery with some eye-popping colours.
I haven't seen it for a long time, but it's a save blind-buy IMHO.
Hope you will find enjoyment in it.

I love the movie. It's very atmospheric. One of Burton's finest IMO. As blind buys go, you could do a lot worse.

I love this movie
It has secretly been a favorite of mine for quite some time now.

Like Bluyoda has said; it has great atmosphere and it's funny at the right moments.
I also think that this time Johnny Depp's love for typical characters has played out very well in his portrayal of Ichabod Crane.

This is NOT the TV series, as someone mentioned above. Just to clear that up.

It is a horror film, but it's not disgustingly gory. It's more atmospheric, but also has some exciting action sequences. It naturally has some quirky characters and moments.

great movie and one of my favorites.
the whole vibe in this movie is fantastic.
there are horror elements, action scenes, few funny scenes, gore elements and all of them well presented with the well known Tim Burton style.

Even though it's listed as a horror, and it has 18 decapitations, I've never thought of it as one.
More a solid mystery thriller.

And I'm not a horror fan, to this day I still can not watch The Exorcist.
That movie still scares the crap out of me
