I'm no expert or nerd on film technology or whatever, but do you think this in any way supports the hunch people here have about a new BD release of Back to the Future?
I bet you the DCP is the exact same one we've already seen in the wild. If it was new why is it only 2K, surely it would be at least 4K. Remember Bob Gale said the exact same thing about the Blurays before they came out and look what we ended up with.

Oh I remember being totally slated on avs saying Gale was just saying what he was told and the Blurays will be crap.

To be fair to Gale I think he's always been talking about the 2002 transfer in general (which we both know looks quite respectable) even when referencing the nasty-assed Blu-ray. The 2K DCP I saw a few years ago was definitely the un-****ed version, so if Bob's been taking that to festivals and other screenings it's no surprise that the Blu-ray might've passed him by.

I've got a feeling (woo, hoo) that he never even saw what Universal did to the Blu-ray, or that if he did, he saw it on some 24" screen in the grading suite where the, ah, shortcomings were much less obvious. He's been interested in such things before though, I remember when the DVDs came out and there was a problem with crackling in the rear channels, I posted about it at the HTF and was contacted by someone claiming to represent Bob who wanted time codes etc.

I think it's funny people are complaining about the curent video quality. The current release is fine. No reason to rerelase this film unless it's a 4k.

Maybe if both Dnr and EE are your poison, seriously, the Blurays are a travesty.

Thank the lord I have the DCP for 1 and my own personal hdtv caps for 2 and 3 to tide me over until 4K transfers are done.

If it looks good on your 78" you must be sitting 20' away.

It sounds much the same with the treatment being given to The Breakfast Club and Apollo 13, so fingers crossed...

That review was done alone time ago when things like Dnr and EE weren't really mentioned by a lot of reviewers or they were not educated in the tell tale signs of it which they are more accustomed to nowadays, if they reviewed it now I guarantee it would be a different story. Either that or the reviewer is like you and likes Dnr and EE making everything look shiny new like a wax museum.

The reviewer does touch upon DNR

Quote:
Zemeckis and Gale have evidently been heavily involved in these new Blu-ray restorations, and it's good to note that there isn't egregious DNR applied to any of these releases

The reviewer like you said states:

"and it's good to note that there isn't egregious DNR applied to any of these releases"

Which in effect is congratulating them which is wrong because the Dnr as well as EE especially in part 2 and 3 is egregious.

DNR in the second film almost ruined the experience for me. It's bad.

While there is Dnr and EE in this set, its only minimum compared to Weird Science, that thing is a mess of a blu ray.
