Eh, not a big fan of the "Uptight Career Woman meets Laid Back Manly-Man and he teaches her to appreciate life" trope. Or the 'ice queen needs to get laid to be a whole person' characterisation I'm getting from Bryce Dallas Howard's character. Or that ridiculous outfit she's wearing.

And I really thought this movie would be a chance for Chris Pratt to play a character a little more stern and straight, but nope looks like he's just playing the same character in everything.

IMHO, that really sucked in every respect. Bad writing, bad acting, bad makeup (on the woman), uninteresting soundtrack and cheap TV show level editing.

I'm not quite sure where my expectations were before, but every piece of news that comes out about this movie only seems to disappoint me further...

Wait... I'm supposed to believe that she's the Operations Manager? (Though that might explain why the dinosaurs escape...)

I'm sure InGen's labs are full of mutant dinosaurs ... tyrannosaurs with wings and other horror shows!

It will be interesting to see how it play's in the movies, they've tried to be pretty faithful with palaeontology and dinosaurs so far, it's an interesting idea, and whilst Jurassic Park is science-fiction it's plausible science-fiction. I wouldn't want it to become a total fantasy (I'm sure it won't), with a host of hybrid dinosaurs .
I know what you're getting at, but as someone with an interest in dinosaurs, I have to say not really. As splendid as they are in terms of design, the special effects used to bring them to life and so on, Jurassic Park's dinosaurs are pretty atrocious as far as scientific accuracy goes. Just ask the frilled, venom-spitting Dilophosaurus, the Tyrannosaurus with crappy eyesight, the oversized, featherless Velociraptors that are supposedly smarter than dolphins and primates, etc.

But they were definitely a big improvement over how dinosaurs were portrayed in movies before Jurassic Park.

I think if anything changes her outlook on life it'll be her experiences on the island after the dinosaurs escape. And I don't think you have to worry about her getting laid, this is a Jurassic Park movie.

[Show spoiler]If we ever get a sex scene it should totally be Alan and Billy in the next movie.

Well, the soundtrack is one thing you can't blame on Jurassic World. They only recently started recording the score, the music in the clip is from John Carter, which was also scored by Michael Giacchino. The music actually used in the movie will be different.

I know they've taken liberties, but they've tried to be as plausible as the stories allow, I just wouldn't want them to become fantasy creatures. I kind of see it as King Kong, we have the dinosaurs and Kong, but that movie has the fantasy monsters too. I don't think they will, but I wouldn't want the Jurassic Park movies to be filled with fantasy monsters.

I think they can only jazz-up the dinosaurs so far before they start to lose members of the audience.

They're annoying cliches but I don't think they're "sexist." Sexist and racist are both terms that get thrown around waaaaaay too casually nowadays, which is a big reason people get defensive all the time when cliches like this are pointed out.

The funny thing is, theres plenty of instances of the same tropes used with the genders reversed. I've noticed many examples in film, games, and anime over the years.

Good Deeds (2012) is an example of a film that has a stiff 'bullet point list' male character that is "awakened" from his dull life by a 'free spirited' woman. Just look at the synopsis for Good Deeds:

Businessman Wesley Deeds is jolted out of his scripted life when he meets Lindsey, a single mother who works on the cleaning crew in his office building.

Was there any outrage when that film was made? Of course not.

But Bethany Frankel can get on National TV just a couple of days ago and say all men care about is sex, food, and sleep and nobody says anything.

I'll give Whedon credit for speaking his mind but alot of people including myself are tired of every little thing be criticized. Its ridiculous because most of Hollywood characters are stereotypes. Did anyone ever stop to think how men feel about how all the male heroes in movies are ripped to hell? So as a male in order to be a hero I need 8 pack abs and 15" biceps? Thats the impression movies and comic books give off. But nobody cares because feminism is the flavor of the day.

New still:
[Show spoiler]

Interesting that Owen and the kids are together, but Claire's nowhere to be seen. I have a feeling while this happens she's at the T. rex enclosure, about to set old Rexy free.

And a new title from Giacchino:
[Show spoiler]

"Come Hell or High Slaughter". You know, I actually kinda like this one, even if it's punny like the others. It's... kinda cool, if in a somewhat silly way, and appropriate. I wonder if it plays over the scene where the pterosaurs attack the guests?

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Taking actual species of dinosaurs that existed and making movie monsters out of them is one thing, to completely make up new ones, like with the Indominus rex, another. Personally though I wouldn't mind if they took the hybrid thing even further in the next sequel, if they could come up with a halfway decent explanation for it and pulled it off well. You know, just running with the monster thing, and doing something different with the franchise. But I know some fans wouldn't like that, at all, and I understand that too.

Ha ha ha, that'd b so incestuous, seeing as they had a father-son dynamic.

Or, Claire has already been eaten, and they are too shocked, saddened to say anything. She was inside the jaws of an animatronic dinosaur, wasn't she?

According to what I've read, that story was fake. I can't see her being killed off either, these movies always let the main characters live, especially the "good guys", and women in particular. But I suppose we'll know for sure eventually.

I have to wonder if Lex and Tim werent in Jurassic Park would I have liked it as much when I watched it as a kid in the theater.

It bothers me that anytime a movie may appeal to a younger audience studios feel the need to put a kid in it. Does it really make the movie more attractive to kids? Do kids need to see other kids in the film to appreciate the dinosaurs etc?

Yes, mainstream Hollywood blockbusters usually have "audience proxies". For example, someone like Darcy is a proxy for the audience in the Thor movies because she needs things explained to her. This gives the filmmakers a chance to deliver exposition. Unfortunately, it also means that the filmmakers have a low opinion of the viewer since Darcy is an idiot.

I think we mostly have Michael Crichton to blame for the kids though. The main reason Lex and Tim were in the first film is because they're in the novel, and then when he wrote The Lost World he basically rehashed those characters as Kelly and Arby, who then got merged into a single character for the movie. The third and now fourth films aren't based on any books (aside from certain elements borrowed from the novels), but by then kids had become a standard in these movies and we all know sequels like to follow the established formula.

I should add that I personally have no problem with the kids in these movies. Never found any of them annoying.

Indeed. The most annoying person in the series so far was Tea Leoni.

I could agree with that, they wrote the character as a complete idiot (and her husband isn't much better). Like how the first thing she does when they land on the island is grab a megaphone and start shouting her son's name. It's actually pretty hilarious.

I'm surprised this is coming from you.

I've learned that discussing sexism and racism on here is a losing proposition because according to the type of men who use this forum, nothing is sexist or racist. It's all a PC/liberal conspiracy!!

Also, because there's bullshit like this:

Gonna have to pull a Moviefan2k4 and say I don't want to continue discussing this publicly because I can already feel the amount of guys on here ready to pounce on me.
