Despite the high survival rate, it's a shame that in 2015, only 7 are available on 3-D Blu-ray!

Great article, as always!

What's the status of Robot Monster? Do you have a shot at getting it?

Btw, all your Picasa poster links show a 'not found' for me: https://picasaweb.google.com/1177010...01230001629954

Wade Williams owns ROBOT MONSTER and is very difficult. I've tried for years to license/restore the film but he's not interested.

I have the links set private.

Nice article. Would love to see Hondo, Revenge Of The Creature, It Came From Outer Space, and Bwana Devil get a 3D blu release of some sort.

A little Googling got me to the related discussions. That's a shame.

Bob, excuse me if the question is inappropriate, but on these Flicker Alley 3D titles, what kind of numbers do you need to sell on a given title to ensure that the project continues, and more vintage 3D titles are brought to HD? I understand that the two may not be directly related, but I'd like to get a handle on what kind of support you need to keep going.

It varies on each title depending on how much work is needed.

On the 3-D RARITIES set, I've invested my own funds out of pocket and if it does well - or at least, sells a few thousand units - I will break even. With that said, the important thing was to get the material scanned in 2K or 4K for preservation AND to make it available for people to own in their collection.

In other words, profit is not the motivation.

However, I won't turn it down so please do all you can to get the word out. Thanks!

Definitely, and my motivation is to have as many vintage 3D titles in my collection as possible. Based on what you've said, my guess is that we're talking Twilight Time numbers, using an example that everyone is familiar with. If these discs sell in the area of 3,000 units each, we'll continue to get more of them, or so I speculate.

Dear Mr. Furmanek.

First let me say how much I appreciate the work you are doing to have 1950s (and older) 3D movies made available on blu-ray. I was a teenager in the 50's and am still as big a fan as ever, even in my late 70s. I check this forum every day because of my huge interest in 3D technology and 3D movies, and have purchased about 180 3D blu rays over the past several years. I've made some findings and thought you might be interested in them.

Several months ago, for a period of about a week or so, someone posted on the net a complete copy of the side-by-side 3D version of "Tarza Son of Cochise." The quality was very good. Then in the past week, I came across an over/under version of "The French Line" (not the same quality as Taza, but quite acceptable).

Also, on Youube, it is not unusual to find clips of older 3D movies in the side-by-side or over under format.

My point is that non-anaglyph, modern 3D versions in which there are separate right eye/left eye files of these movies are around somewhere and it would be wonderful if the sources could be identified and a plan formulated to prepare these films on blu-ray for all of us to enjoy. Of course, I don't know whether the sources actually have the rights to these films, but I find it interesting that they already exist in modern 3D formats at all.

Thank you again for all your hard work in behalf of bringing back the old 3D movies for obsessive fans/collectors like me.

Since Mr. Furmanek's Golden Age of 3D list covers 1952-1955, the 1966 film The Bubble is not included.

However, The Mad Magician was made available as a 3D download from the Playstation Store for PS3 owners. It's the only digital download I've ever purchased.

That could bring the total to an arguable 8 Golden Age 3D films available for purchase today.

Thanks, Philip999.

The copy of TAZA that is making the rounds is sourced from the circa 2009 Sensio 3-D release. It's very good as it is taken from the studios left/right masters. However, no alignment work was done so it's a bit hard on the eyes and could be much better.

THE FRENCH LINE dates back to a private transfer done in the 1980's from a pair of worn left/right 35mm prints. It's watchable...barely.

At one time, I had left/right 35mm prints of 30 Golden Age features so I am a bit spoiled. Those prints are now safely in storage at the UCLA Archive.

We've shown the copyright holders that we can deliver a high-quality 3-D master at a fraction of the cost, as we did with DRAGONFLY SQUADRON and THE BUBBLE. They may not be scrubbed clean of grain and other negative wear, but the 3-D is flawless and - at least - people get to see and enjoy them again.

But official 3-D Blu-ray releases of only 7 out of 50 titles is a bit ridiculous. I'm not getting any younger!

I'd like to see The Glass Web, noir and in 3D. Probably not much hope for that one if Man in the Dark can't move 3000 copies.

Dangerous Mission looks interesting as well, more Vincent Price on blu can't hurt!

There's so many I haven't heard of yet would welcome a purchase. Can't wait for Gog and The Mask later this year!

Just put in my order for 3D Rarities at Flicker Alley along with a some of their other titles I've been putting off.

We've just updated our website to include new information on the never-completed feature, THE 3-D FOLLIES.

There's also new data on shorts and industrial films including the lost 1954 General Motors short, THIS IS PROGRESS. With 3-D footage of the XP-21 Firebird, this lost film must be found. Please share!
