There's an uptick in resolution, but not a demonstrable one unfortunately. I'll pick it up regardless, but judging by the captures, it's very easy to see why so many people I know just don't see the reason to go to Blu-ray. This looks to be one of those cases where I almost agree with them.

It doesn't look like a full 4k restoration effort from Sony and might just well be an older HD transfer that got dusted off.

Even so, there is still added detail in the Blu-ray caps. If Twilight Time's release uses the same Sony master... just import it. It would definitely not be worth the $35... just like Sleepless in Seattle and As Good As it Gets, which were sub par transfers.

For $23.00 from Italy, I'd just as soon wait for the TT release.

Coincidentally I was just trying to find a good Blu-Ray version of this. Terrific movie and pairs well with To Sir, With Love, which I might have to order now. One of Kate Hepburns best performances.

First day buy. Can't wait.

Very good news. It is always great to get more Tracy/Hepburn films... and Sidney Poitier is icing on the cake. I am still hoping for a Blu-ray release of Lilies of the Field.... maybe someday.

Fairly surprised that Sony would license this one out and not release it themselves. Their sales projections for catalog titles must be very dire.

They've been dumping a lot of their catalog titles onto TT lately. I screamed bloody murder about Oliver! (making it clear my problem was with Sony and not TT), but it's since been joined by All the King's Men and (shortly) A Man for All Seasons -- and that's just the Best Picture winners. Let's face it: Catalog is down in the dumps right now; some studios favor TT's business model because TT bears all the risk (they pay the royalties for all 3,000 copies up front).

Not to mention that, sadly, none of Katharine Hepburn's record four Oscar-winning performances were on U.S. BD till Shout! Factory released On Golden Pond in January. (Foreign BDs exist of The Lion in Winter as well as this one.)

No idea if I'd get the Japan release or not. Not too fond of Twilight Time especially since I prefer waiting for reviews and/or comparisons to see whether or not I'd actually want to own certain releases.

Based on what Professor Echo has posted elsewhere it sounds like Sony's decision to stop releasing catalog titles rests solely on the shoulders of one individual.

I do know for a fact, based on a veteran insider from another site, that the person in charge of the Fox Archive MOD division hates older movies. Before Fox she was responsible for shutting down the catalog title releases at Sony. This explains why that program is so messed up. Perhaps her decision making will spill over into other areas of the studio. Considering how their catalog titles on Blu have largely dried up, it wouldn't surprise me.

If she's now at Fox, why is Sony still doing it now that she's gone?

Who knows when she left but it could take time to reverse course assuming they chose to do so. I'm just thankful to see Sony released some catalog titles recently and hoping this is a sign of things to come. If Sony does change course some of these titles may have already been locked up in contracts.

Now Fox is starting to stop catalog releases. :shudder:

I've never ordered a Twilight Time Blu-ray before. How far in advance does the pre-order usually go up?

Interesting, considering Fox's recent decisions to scrap blu-ray releases for many of their current shows and scrap physical media entirely for The Simpsons.

Currently, about 2-3 weeks in advance. Any info is posted on the first page of this thread as soon as it becomes known:

Here is the amazon.it page through Google Translate:

https://translate.google.com/transla...-text=&act=url

Google also has a currency converter, just type "currency converter" and it should be the first result. Right now, 9.89 euros = 11.18 U. S. dollars.
