Yeah I think that's the coolest thing about the "new" saber. It's simply an ancient saber (hints it being unstable), and we shouldn't worry about it being the new saber style in all these new films. I like it more after knowing all that.

It wouldn't bother me even if that was the new style of saber (the contentious crossguards being a personal choice of the lightsaber's creator), because IMO it fits perfectly with the post-ROTJ climate; the knowledge of both the Jedi and the Sith has been scattered to the wind, the galaxy is still being fought over and training up them Jedis doesn't seem to be a major priority, so peoples have gots to make do with what they can.

Sorry if this is obvious, but I just realised what the bit in the trailer with the TIE shooting up the hangar is:

Yup, it's called

. A lot of rumors leaked before the first teaser has been confirmed (such as Finn running amok in the hangar and crash lands the TIE fighter on a desert planet then meet Rey) but some could still be wrong.
