No, for me it kinda worked. I can almost guarantee this episode you'll see a similar 3-act structure with Episode I and IV.

Yep. And in Ep VIII the heroes will no doubt be split up and have their own story paths to follow as per Empire, with an unresolved climax that'll lead into IX etc etc.

I wonder if there'll be a celebration scene at the end of VII?

The Ewok song from the end of the real Return Of The Jedi is playing on the Celebration feed.

Speaking of rhyming, the Star Destroyer reveal in the trailer was an incredibly deft nod to the iconic, industry-changing Star Destroyer reveal in Star Wars.

And I use the word deft very deliberately. Something like that could have very easily been little more than ham-handed fan service but that parallel didn't even hit me until I was discussing the trailer with my brother-in-law a few hours later.

It's very encouraging.

What, you mean going from this massive Star Destroyer flying overhead to one being shown derelict at the start of the trailer? I never thought about it, but now that I do it does make for a very juicy callback to the original. In that one shot it tells you that the previous iteration of Star Wars is over, parked in the sand like the planes in the boneyards of Arizona, and that this is a new beginning. Woah.

It's more than that.

Star Wars started with a planet [okay cool], then the blockade runner [whoa, very cool] then the slow reveal of the Star Destroyer [whoa, holy ****, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore].

The pan in the trailer is very reminiscent of that exact progression.

Damn, you're right. Planet -> small ship/craft -> reveal of huge Star Destroyer.

The trailer did that really well. But the actual movie won't start that way though.

Really? Gosh, after seeing the trailers I thought it must. I suppose that would be too obvious.

They gotta keep up with the pattern: all these movies start in space, before panning (usually down) to show a planet/spaceship. I have no doubt Ep VII will do the same, it'll just be a question of how well it does it.

The only thing better than the Episode 7 trailer is Matthew McConaughey's reaction to the trailer:

His grin upon seeing the crashed star destroyer is perfect, and his wave back to Kylo Ren's force push cracks me up

Nope.

[Show spoiler] a funeral.

Sorry, I didn't mean to add something useless to the thread. I was speculating about how the movie might start, and since that opening shot of the trailer was so evocative with its symbolism from the original trilogy I was speculating that it could well be the opening of the movie. Didn't mean to annoy you! I'll see myself out.

I've just watched the new teaser again with big headphones. I don't usually over-analyze things, but there is a strange, creepy echo to Luke's voice. Maybe a subtle hint that he will actually
[Show spoiler]be a Sith
?

I want you guys to listen to the teaser again, louder this time. It's weird that they have to make it sound that way.

One of the funniest and most creative things I've seen in a long time! I also crack up when I read about people crying from the trailer. I love Star Wars too but come on.

I take it you didn't watch the Mark Hamill panel then?

He revealed that he re-recorded the lines from ROTJ just for the 2. teaser, and that J.J. told him he used the original lines as the main voice over, and the newly recorded ones as an echo.

Those lines won't be heard in the movie proper.

Nope. I'm not trying to say that it is from the new film, I knew that and that's not my point. My point was, why record again? Echos are normally just the same sound repeating that any sound editing software can do, but they make a new record and make it sound so weird and ghostly. Why did they have to do that?
