Yeah, I think it will be.

The Universal Classic Monsters were filmed back in the 30s and they're not only well-regarded by historians and film buffs, they're still really popular among just plain folk.

And I'd really love to be around in forty years to see it.

Though not enough to give up booze or cigars, so...

40 years from now people will still be watching Star Wars, reading The Hobbit/LOTR and Harry Potter and listening to The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

These things will be what is remembered of pop culture a hundred years from now.

Classic material endures. In any medium.

That's why we still listen to Tchaikovsky and read Jules Verne. Star Wars, like Star Trek, will endure.

[Show spoiler]Kylo Ren. The first six movies have plenty of religious metaphors - the savior, virgin birth, prophecies, etc. The religious theme of VII mirrors the state of the church during the dark ages. For example, Kylo Ren's saber resembles the broadswords that crusader's are famous for using. In real life, there were plenty of false idols - many people claiming to be the second coming of Christ. Similarly, Kylo Ren is (falsely) claiming to be Vader. He is a controversial figure among the First Order. More and more people are starting to believe he is actually Vader because of the 'miracles' he performs (him using the force). He has a sizeable and cult like faction of the First Order following him by the start of VII. Ren makes a power grab to gain more power in the First Order. He uses violence and fear to get this power. Finn was okay with how the First Order was operating, but after realizing the evil Ren's coming to power is inevitable, he quits.

So sad.

I don't get that at all. Unlike Vader he's not someone else's ***** or lap dog.

Before any SW fanboys start complaining, just face it, as cool and awesome as Vader was, the Emperor had him by the balls. He was his little b****.

This new villain sounds like he kicks ass and takes names while creating a following or cult.

I definitely think so. Star Wars has already been around for almost 40 years and is still as popular as ever, it will last another 40 years easily. New movies, shows, books, comics, games, etc. being released over the years will just help it stay even more relevant to coming generations.

Star Wars is probably the last movie franchise I worry about enduring, I'm more concerned about all those wonderful less popular films that will just fade into obscurity and be forgotten over time. But that's how the cookie crumbles I guess.

[Show spoiler]Jakku was a wasteland with no population/settlements until around 40 years ago when the star destroyers we see in the trailer crash landed after a nearby space battle. The surviving crew became deserted and set up a colony. The crew were the first settlers on the planet. The battle of Endor took place around the same time as the 'battle of Jakku.' As a result of the second Death Star's destruction and the death of Vader and Palpatine, the empire was in disarray and did not have the time and resources for a rescue mission. Max Von Sydow was the Moff/Admiral/Commanding officer of the Star Destroyer we see in the beginning of the trailer and now acts as the de facto leader of the civilization. He is mad at the empire for leaving them stranded so he has no loyalty to the First Order. He helps out Rey and gives Finn information/evidence about the empire (they're evil) that finalizes his decision to desert. The planet attracts pirates, scavengers, scum, villainy, etc. because of the looting potential of the ship graveyard, so it has become the 'new' Tattooine and Mos Eisley.

Very interesting stuff, thanks for that. I really like the whole idea of
[Show spoiler]the people living on Jakku being the surviving crew of a crashed Star Destroyer.

It really has nothing necessarily to do with claiming to be Vader. It more bother me that because I was really hoping for a new and different guy this time around. Not someone who looks like someone we've seen before, and again if true, feeds off the reputation of someone we've seen before.

I mean they could have had anyone come along with a messiah complex and "Wow" the First Order with his "miracles" while not feeding off some previous character.

If what that rumor says about him is true I think it's a copout, unoriginal, and lame. That's my opinion and I don't give a damn what people think about my opinion.

Well, remember there will be more villains. We have Captain Phasma for one, and there's also the rumored
[Show spoiler]ancient Sith lord, who may be played by Andy Serkis.
In addition to that, we'll probably get more villains introduced in Episodes VIII and IX, so I won't worry too much about one
[Show spoiler]Vader impersonator.

When it comes to the fighting...

The OT kept it all simple because there really weren't any huge fight-movie trends to follow at the time.

I'm pretty sure the PT was fights were all heavily inspired by all the wire-fu trends that popped up in the late 90s and early 00s, thanks to things like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Matrix, etc. Seemed awesome at the time, but it was definitely more for show (and I think I remember Lucas saying that the PT fights are purposefully dance-like).

If the rumors are true that The Raid guys are working on the new movies, then I'd expect them to follow the current action-movie trends, which seems to be a bit showy, but more practical-looking and a lot more brutal.

If Abrams' previous work is any indication, I predict the fights in TFA will be a step up from the brief swordfight in Star Trek, but not too over-the-top.

I know, I get that. And I'm not saying the movie is ruined for me. It's my most anticipated film of this year.
[Show spoiler]It just seems like Renn's character is taking front stage and I wanted a main villain who was completely original.
