I don't think this is out of left field at all, for several reasons. For one thing, it's a new series. Newer TV series that are in the public eye will likely sell better than older 'catalog' TV releases. This show is made to be in Hi-Def, with colors that will really pop. Plus, it's the first season, which is a great place to start for Blu-Ray.

You might notice that aside from a few rather popular exceptions like Smallville, The Sopranos, and Lost, almost no TV series that are still currently running, but already have several seasons on DVD from before Blu-Ray was around and/or popular enough to release TV season sets on, are releasing the newer seasons on Blu-Ray.

This is largely because many people probably don't want their seasons split between two or more formats, and probably wouldn't be willing to rebuy all of the previous releases on Blu-Ray. I'm still buying the newer Smallville sets on DVD for this very reason.

But newer series that just started within the past year or two are prime for Blu-Ray releases. Thankfully Heroes wasn't too far behind so they only have to rerelease the first season to catch up (that one I will rebuy since it's just the one season, and then get all future releases of it on Blu-Ray going forward).

I'm also glad that Chuck is being released on Blu-ray. Unfortunately in that case it's coming out almost 2 months after the DVD, but I can wait.
